2000s Songs We’d Like to Hear Sampled!

We love seeing older songs being used to inspire music! Here are 6 songs from the early 00s that we want to see sampled today.

The internet’s boyfriend Jack Harlow dropped his newest single “First Class” featuring a sample of Fergie’s “Glamorous” on April 8, the second from his upcoming album Come Home the Kids Miss You

Following a TikTok featuring a snippet of his newest track, the internet went into an absolute frenzy over the use of the 00s pop anthem, sparking a conversation about those who were around for the pop hits of the early aughts who are now actively listening to artists like Jack sample these songs. This got us thinking — what other 00s jams would we like to hear sampled by the artists of the 20s? Here are 6 of our favorite songs from the early aughts that we’d like to hear sampled today!

“Hollaback Girl” – Gwen Stefani

This song has a chokehold across generations, and rightfully so. The beat, the lyrics, the melody —  this song is just early aughts perfection. Is there anything more therapeutic than chanting B-A-N-A-N-A-S?

“Sexyback” – Justin Timberlake

There was no way we could make a list of some of the best music of the 00s without including some JT. Not only is “Sexyback” one of the catchiest songs of the time and a Grammy-award-winning track but it’s had a rebirth on TikTok and trends every few months, making it perfect for a sample by an artist today.

“Buttons” – Pussy Cat Dolls

The PCD ran the pop scene in the early 00s, and this song was no exception. Featuring a Snoop Dogg verse, “Buttons” is a 00s classic, and for good reason. The vocals and beat on this song would lay the foundation for a hit today and would be a perfect dance track.

“Pon de Replay” – Rihanna

Imagine being 18-year-old Rihanna and your debut single is “Pon de Replay” — talk about a cultural reset. Honestly, a sample of any of RiRi’s earliest hits is probably the closest thing we’ll be getting to new Rihanna music any time soon.

Hips Don’t Lie – Shakira

Two words: Trumpet. Intro. Let’s be real here: whether you take the chorus, the bridge, the Wyclef Jean feature, or the brilliant trumpet intro, you’ve got a hit song on your hands with a “Hips Don’t Lie” sample.

Promiscuous Girl – Nelly Furtado

Let’s be honest —any song on the entire Loose album could be sampled and hit the top of the charts today, but “Promiscuous Girl” just hits different. The Timbaland feature, the witty banter throughout the song, and the backing track are the makings of a perfect sample for a song today.
