“I am pleased to announce that for the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda, Zelda will be played by Bo Bragason-san, and Link by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth-san,” Miyamoto shared via Nintendo’s official social media account. “I am very much looking forward to seeing both of them on the big screen.”
The film, which is being directed by Wes Ball, known for The Maze Runner and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, is slated to hit theaters on May 7, 2027. It was originally scheduled for March but was recently delayed due to production-related reasons. Miyamoto and Avi Arad are producing the adaptation.
Bragason, an English actress, has been steadily rising with appearances in the BBC One series Three Girls and The Jetty, as well as Disney+’s Renegade Nell. She also starred in the vampire comedy film The Radleys in 2024, directed by Euros Lyn.
Ainsworth, also from England, voiced the title character in Robert Zemeckis’ live-action Pinocchio and played Miles in the Netflix horror series The Haunting of Bly Manor. He currently stars in the Canadian sitcom Son of a Critch and recently appeared in Netflix’s The Sandman.
Following the huge success of Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros. Movie for Universal and Illumination, expectations are sky-high for The Legend of Zelda. With Sony behind the project and a beloved franchise at the center, fans are hoping this live-action adventure will be just as legendary at the box office.
