‘The Queen’s Gambit’ Breaks Multiple Records: Fans And Celebrities Alike React

With sixty-two million views in twenty-eight days, these celebrities tell you why you should be watching Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit.

The newest winter television sensation, Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit, is breaking records in more ways than one. In its first twenty-eight days on the streaming giant, the tale of Anya Taylor Joy’s Beth Harmon received sixty-two million views. This makes The Queen’s Gambit Netflix’s biggest scripted limited series to date. Releasing the news on Twitter, fans and celebrities alike shared their love for the show, which has captured attention worldwide.

Viewership and audiences aren’t the only things The Queen’s Gambit is racking up. Many have caught on to Beth Harmon’s love of chess, the sport she long desires to dominate despite the rampant sexism within the competitive industry. A New York Times article reported that since the series premiered, sales of chess sets and other related items have risen by more than 125 percent. This is a significant increase considering before The Queen’s Gambit hit Netflix, sales of chess sets in the United States only rose by around 25 percent. Google searches for chess related advice have hit their first peak in nine years, and the novel that the show is based on has returned to the New York Times Bestseller list thirty-seven years after its release.

We aren’t the only ones who are massive fans of The Queen’s Gambit and its breakout star Anya Taylor Joy. Celebrities are sharing in our newfound obsession as they go to social media to share their excitement.

Beloved child star and now Twitter icon Mara Wilson shared a snap of her beloved cat getting into the plot of the show.

Popular Twitch streamer Chris Melberger Tweeted what we were all thinking when watching. His Tweet perfectly encapsulates the rise in interest in chess the stats are reflecting.

It wouldn’t be a Twitter lovefest if the queen herself, Chrissy Teigan, didn’t give her two cents. She specifically gave props to Anya Taylor Joy, who also had a role in BBC / Netflix show Peaky Blinders. It’s clear Teigan enjoyed the actress’s work in both projects.

Meanwhile, Danielle Panabaker, who stars in CW’s The Flash as Caitlin Snow, tweeted a simple but impactful statement.

Are you loving The Queen’s Gambit as much as these celebs? Would you want to see a season two or did the story end on the right note? Either way, we hope to see even more from Anya Taylor Joy. She is currently filming Robert Eggers’ The Northman. The two previously worked together for Anya’s first leading role in 2015’s The Witch. On an even more exciting note, Anya will be taking on the role of a young Furiosa in a Mad Max: Fury Road prequel. Anya will be replacing Academy Award winner Charlize Theron, but if The Queen’s Gambit is anything to go by, then Furiosa is in perfectly capable hands.
