The ‘Glee’ Cast Keeps Naya Rivera’s Memory Alive Through Charity Drive

To keep with the holiday spirit of giving, the cast of Glee is raising money to remember their castmate, Naya Rivera.

Matthew Morrison, who played Will Schuester on the Fox television show Glee, announced that he and the cast are working together to raise money for charity in Naya Rivera’s honor.

Naya tragically passed away over the summer when she took her son out boating on a lake outside of Los Angeles. She drowned after mustering enough energy to rescue her son but not enough to save herself, authorities say.

She leaves behind her 4-year-old son, Josey Hollis Dorsey, who was found asleep on the boat Naya rented.

The Glee cast has started a GoFundMe to raise money for Naya’s favorite charity, Alexandria House in Los Angeles. They are calling it “A Snixxmas Charity Drive.”

Matthew told ET the reason behind the GoFundMe, saying, “Naya used to do this thing called Snixxmas, because that was one of her little nicknames, Snixx. It’s something that the Glee cast — we’re talking about kind of like reviving it this year. Doing some kind of thing for charity, or something to kind of honor her.”

The Snixxmas team has already raised close to $80,000. Their original goal was $50,000, and have now already exceeded it. Their new goal is $100,000.

Naya’s son spent time with his dad, Ryan Dorsey, decorating their Christmas tree. Dorsey shared a photo of them wearing Christmas hats as they put the star on top. He captioned the photo, “Happy Holidays to all. You, you, and even you, all of ya. Hope you get nothing but happiness.” Ryan went on to share the feelings of most this year, writing, “Except you. I’m talking to you, 2020.”
