Deadline’s Sound and Screen Television returns May 7 at UCLA with music from Severance, The Last of Us, Squid Game, The Rings of Power and more!
Deadline’s signature music-focused TV showcase, Sound & Screen Television, is making its much-anticipated return on Wednesday, May 7, at UCLA’s Royce Hall. The annual event, designed to spotlight the music behind television’s most acclaimed series, will feature a night of live performances by top composers and a 60-piece orchestra, offering Academy and guild voters a rare opportunity to experience the sounds that shaped the past year’s standout shows.
Eleven hit series are part of this year’s curated lineup, each represented by the composers whose scores have played a pivotal role in driving the emotional impact and storytelling of the medium’s most talked-about shows.
From Prime Video, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power composer Bear McCreary and The Boys’ Christopher Lennertz and Matt Bowen will bring their fantasy and superhero worlds to life on stage. HBO|Max is represented by The Penguin’s Mick Giacchino and the critically acclaimed The Last of Us with music by Gustavo Santaolalla and David Fleming.
Apple TV+ will showcase the haunting and cerebral tones of Severance with Theodore Shapiro, alongside the heartfelt score of Shrinking by Tom Howe. Long Bright River, presented by Sony Pictures Television and Peacock, will feature music by Dimitri Smith and James Poyser.
Netflix brings an international flair to the program with Squid Game’s Jung Jaeil and the animated phenomenon Arcane represented by Alex Seaver. There will also be virtual performances from Paradise’s Siddhartha Khosla for Hulu and The Day of the Jackal’s Volker Bertelmann for Peacock.
The evening will begin with an exclusive, guild-only reception at 5 p.m. PT, followed by doors opening at 6 p.m. and the main event kicking off at 6:30 p.m. Full panel coverage will be available on Deadline the next day, with the launch of the event’s streaming site set for Friday, May 9.
Sound & Screen Television follows a robust season of awards programming from Deadline, including the 27-show Contenders Television showcase earlier this month and the upcoming Contenders Television: Documentary, Unscripted & Variety, which streams virtually this Saturday.
This year’s Sound & Screen promises an unforgettable night where music and television storytelling come together in perfect harmony.
