Rip Trailer Unleashes Matt Damon And Ben Affleck Thriller

Netflix releases the first explosive trailer and key art for The Rip, teasing Matt Damon and Ben Affleck as Miami cops facing temptation, danger, and betrayal.

Netflix has officially dropped the trailer and key art for The Rip, offering a first look at the intense new crime thriller set to premiere globally on January 16, 2026. The film brings together a high-profile cast and creative team for a tense story centered on loyalty, temptation and the high cost of mistrust.

Directed and written by Joe Carnahan, with the story developed by Carnahan alongside Michael McGrale, The Rip follows a team of Miami police officers whose bond begins to fracture after they uncover millions of dollars in cash hidden inside a rundown stash house. What initially appears to be a massive seizure quickly turns into a dangerous moral and professional test as word spreads about the money and outside forces close in.

According to the film’s logline, the discovery sparks growing suspicion within the group, forcing each officer to question who they can truly rely on. With the money believed to be cartel-owned, the danger escalates rapidly, placing the team under immense pressure as time works against them.

Matt Damon, who stars in the film, described the urgency of the situation in comments shared with Tudum. “In Miami, you have to count the money on-site, so that everybody knows how much is there,” Damon said. “They know that it’s almost certainly cartel money that belongs to very dangerous people who are probably going to come get it. They’re on the clock, and they have to start thinking of defending where they are because they can’t just leave.”

Ben Affleck, who also stars and produces the film, emphasized the psychological stakes at the heart of the story. “It begs the question: What do you do when faced with this massive temptation?” Affleck said. “What does that mean? What’s it like to see that up close? And then also, who do you trust?”

The film is produced by Affleck, Damon, Dani Bernfeld and Luciana Damon, with Kevin Halloran and Michael Joe serving as executive producers for Artists Equity.

Leading the cast alongside Damon and Affleck are Steven Yeun, Teyana Taylor, Sasha Calle and Catalina Sandino Moreno. The ensemble also includes Scott Adkins and Kyle Chandler, rounding out a lineup that underscores the film’s high-stakes intensity.

With its trailer and key art now unveiled, The Rip is shaping up to be a suspense-driven addition to Netflix’s 2026 film slate when it debuts worldwide this January.
