Premieres For The Week Of January 3rd, 2021

It’s a brand new year, and we’re celebrating with new television! The first week of 2021 has a ton of new shows and a brand new streaming platform. Keep reading to check out all of this week’s premieres.

Sunday, January 3rd

Call Me Kat

The new FOX sitcom is a remake of the British sitcom titled Miranda. It follows Kat (Mayim Bialik), a single 39 year old woman who is happy with her relationship status, although her mother doesn’t share her outlook. She takes the savings her parents put aside for her wedding and uses it to open up a cat cafe instead. The series also stars Swoosie Kurtz, Cheyenne Jackson, Kyla Pratt, and Leslie Jordan. The series premieres on Sunday, January 3rd at 8 pm ET and then moves to its normal slot of Thursdays at 9 pm ET on FOX.

Home Town

Home renovation stars Ben, and Erin Napier continues their goal of renovating their small hometown of Laurel, Mississippi, in the 5th season of the series. The season will run 16 episodes and will follow the couple as they overhaul outdated homes with customized renovations. New episodes will air every Sunday at 8 pm ET on HGTV.

In the Long Run

The 3rd season of the show, which is loosely based on actor-writer Idris Elba’s childhood, premieres. The series examines the lives of the Easmon family, who live in London in 1985. Factory worker Walter’s (Idris Elba) home is turned upside down when his party-loving, responsibility-challenged DJ younger brother arrives from Sierra Leone. The season will run 6 episodes, with new episodes airing every Sunday at 9 pm ET on STARZ.

The Rookie

The Nathan Fillion led police drama starts its 3rd season. Fillion plays John Nolan, the oldest rookie in the LAPD. The new season will see Nolan having to do a lot of explaining, including the way that he and Harper did business at the end of last season. We will also see Lopez’s journey after becoming a detective and get to meet Nolan’s mom. New episodes will be available every Sunday at 10 pm ET on ABC.

The Watch

The newest series based on Terry Pratchett’s Discworld novel premieres. The series will be a comedic fantasy crime procedural centering on the misfit police force (aka The City Watch) of the Discworld city of Ankh-Morpork. The season will have 8 episodes with a double episode premiere. New episodes will be available every Sunday at 8 pm ET on BBC America.

Worst Cooks in America

This season Chef Carla Hall is facing off against Chef Anne Burrell to see who can transform their team of kitchen disasters into culinary masters. This season the challenges are tougher and more outrageous than ever as the teams battle it out and players get sent home. The final victor will take home the $25,000 grand prize and bragging rights for their team mentor. The episodes will run 90 minutes, with new ones airing every Sunday at 9 pm ET on Food Network.

Worst Cooks in America: Dirty Dishes

The newest spinoff from the competition series has memorable boot camp alumni, celebrity recruits including Carson Kressley and Sonja Morgan, and comedians who watch along and dish the dirt on the funniest episodes of Worst Cooks in America. The series will air directly after the main series at 10:30 pm ET on Food Network.

Monday, January 4th

30 Coins

The new horror series follows Father Vergara, an exorcist sent away by the church to become the local priest of Pedraza, a remote town in Spain. When inexplicable terror begins to plague the idyllic community, the local vet Elena and the town’s mayor, Paco, form an unlikely alliance to understand the source of the strange and demonic events. The series will run 8 episodes with a double episode premiere. New episodes will be available every Monday at 9 pm ET on HBO and HBO Max.

90 Day Diaries

The series is premiering on the new streaming service Discovery+ and will feature cast members from various seasons self-filming. There will be absolutely no crews present as the reality stars update us on their lives and how things are going in quarantine. I haven’t been able to find out if the episodes will all be available at once or week to week, although if I were to guess, it would be week to week. Regardless of how they will drop, they will be available at 3:01 am ET on Discovery+.

90 Day Bares All

Also premiering is what seems to be TLC’s new version of the Tell All. In the new series, Shaun Robinson interviews various cast members about their lives and time filming completely uncensored. We will also get unseen moments that were “too risky” for television. The series will air a new episode every Monday at 3:01 am ET on Discovery+.

100 Day Dream Home

The design show is back for a second season. This time, the Kleinschmidt’s will race against the clock during Florida’s hurricane season to build various styles of homes, including a modern, coastal, and farmhouse, with ambitious special projects such as a two-story boat dock and an indoor basketball court. In a surprise twist, the couple also will share the realization of their very own dream home. The season will be 9 episodes, with new episodes airing every Monday at 8 pm ET on HGTV.

1,000-LB Sisters

The sisters are back for round 2! This season, a few months after her successful surgery, Amy learns more good news – that she and her husband, Michael, are expecting their first baby. However, Tammy is concerned that Amy is still recovering from her procedure and that her doctor had warned her to wait at least two years to get pregnant. Meanwhile, Tammy has moved in next door to Amy and Michael and relies on them for her basic daily needs. The sisters’ older brother Chris decides to join Tammy on her journey in the hopes of getting approved for weight loss surgery himself and holding Tammy accountable. Tammy’s boyfriend, Jerry, will also play a part this season. She met him in person once last year in Atlanta, but now he’s agreed to visit her in Kentucky. Tammy hopes this means he’s ready to take their relationship to the next level, but her siblings are worried once they learn how the two met and fear that Jerry could sabotage Tammy’s weight loss goals and distract her from making her health a priority. We will also get to see how quarantine plays into the sister’s health journey as well. New episodes will air every Monday at 10 pm ET on TLC.

American Detective With Lt. Joe Kenda

Lt. Joe Kenda, one of the toughest, most experienced homicide detectives in ID history, is back exclusively on discovery+. Over the years, Kenda has heard about cases that defy logic – investigations so confounding that they feel more scripted in Hollywood than reality. In American Detective, Kenda trades in his own case files to bring viewers astounding investigations from across the country, with each episode featuring a different homicide detective whose tireless efforts helped put a killer behind bars and bring justice for the victim. A new episode will drop every Monday at 3:01 am ET on Discovery+.

The Bachelor

Matt James makes his debut as The Bachelor! Matt is making history as the first Black bachelor. Every week women will compete to win his heart and hopefully end up with a proposal. Things will be slightly different since due to covid they couldn’t leave the mansion, which means no on-site dates and no tropical vacation. New episodes will air every Monday at 8 pm ET on ABC.

BattleBots: The Bounty Hunters

Builders from around the globe get a chance to call their shot in a series of six all-new, two-hour events. Six of the most feared Bots in the sport of robot combat. Six one-of-a-kind bounty prizes. It’s not apparent how the episodes will be dropping, but they will be available on Mondays at 3:01 am ET on Discovery+.

Bobby and Giada in Italy

Longtime friends Bobby Flay and Giada De Laurentiis take viewers on a culinary tour of Italy. It’s the ultimate road trip across the most delicious country on earth. Episodes will be available at 3:01 am ET on Discovery+ and starting January 14th at 11 pm ET on Food Network.

Cakealikes

This ultimate cake off competition challenges experts to create life-size cakes that are the spitting image of famed celebrities. The episodes air on Mondays at 3:01 am ET on Discovery+ and then on starting Sunday, January 17th at 10:30 pm ET on Food Network.

Chopped Challenge

Chopped Challenge brings the high drama of Chopped episodes into the homes of Judges Maneet Chauhan, Scott Conant, Amanda Freitag, Marc Murphy, Marcus Samuelsson, and Geoffrey Zakarian as they use their culinary mastery to create delicious and inventive recipes from three rounds of mystery basket ingredients. Intercutting self-shot footage, the judges compete against the clock. The episodes air on Mondays at 3:01 am ET on Discovery+.

Christina: Stronger By Design

Christina Anstead, star designer, and home renovation expert, start a fresh chapter in her life and reflects on what inspires her as she as rethinks her own home’s design, including a bedroom refresh and a beautiful tablescape for her backyard. Christina also shares her personal wellness journey, her routine for self-care, and a few of her favorite go-to beauty regimens with her makeup artist and best friend, Shannon. The pair, along with friend Cassie, chat about life, motherhood, friendships, and new beginnings. The episodes air on Mondays at 3:01 am ET on Discovery+.

Dr. Pimple Popper: This is Zit

Dr. Sandra Lee shares all the gory details behind some of her most difficult pops. Watch intimate excavation videos of things you will need to see to believe. The episodes air on Mondays at 3:01 am ET on Discovery+.

Elephant Hospital

Take a trip to the world’s largest hospital devoted solely to treating elephants: the Elephant Hospital in Lampang, Northern Thailand, which cares for over 100 sick, injured, or neglected animals each year. With unique access to the daily challenges faced by the vets and volunteers on site, this is a heartwarming series full of uplifting, extraordinary, and unexpected stories. The episodes air on Mondays at 3:01 am ET on Discovery+.

Ellen’s Game of Games

The show is back for its 4th season! The show brings some of the best games from the comedian’s talk show to bigger heights as contestants face off. New episodes will air Mondays at 8 pm ET on NBC.

Frozen in Time

Maureen McCormick and designer Dan Vickery overhaul homes that are stuck in a design time warp. Dan will update the structure, while Maureen sources beautiful decade-specific pieces to give the home a refreshed look and a wink to its original era. Gold Rush: Freddy Dodge’s Mine Rescue

Gold recovery expert Freddy Dodge helps struggling mine owners in this six-part series. If he can increase the owner’s weekly gold haul, he gets a cut of the profits, but if he fails, he doesn’t charge them anything! The episodes will air Mondays at 3:01 am ET on Discovery+.

HGTV’s House Party

This exciting new talk show features interviews with top HGTV talent, including David Bromstad, Tarek El Moussa, Jasmine Roth, Alison Victoria, and more. Stephen “tWitch” Boss, Allison Holker Boss, Derek Hough, and Margaret Cho are among the many HGTV superfans who stop by to join the fun. Each episode features games, DIY challenges, and of course, some gossip! Episodes air on Mondays at 3:01 am ET on Discovery+.

Home Town: Ben’s Workshop

Master woodworker Ben Napier will share his expertise in craftsmanship and carpentry with celebrity guests, including astronaut Scott Kelly, tennis legend Martina Navratilova, comedian Loni Love, and country singer Chris Lane. In this four-episode series, Ben’s visitors are in for a fun Southern experience – building iconic wood projects and making surprise visits to donate them to the community or a neighbor. House Hunters: Comedians on Couches Unfiltered

The new series is led by comedians Dan Levy and Natasha Leggero and will feature eight popular comedians as they deliver unfiltered color commentary on classic episodes of House Hunters. Magnolia Table With Joanna Gaines

Monster Garage

The 6th season of the TLC show gets a move to Discovery+. Jesse James team gets seven days to complete a project. If they succeed, they each walk away with $5K. If they don’t, Jesse’s free to destroy the monster – by blowing it up. Episodes air on Mondays at 3:01 am ET on Discovery+.

Mysterious Planet

Narrated by David Schwimmer, Mysterious Planet is an epic journey to the ends of the earth. Onision: In Real Life

This cutting-edge investigative series explores the mystery, controversy, and alleged criminality surrounding Greg Jackson, bringing forward new research and revelations about the man that the YouTube community loves to hate. The Other Way Strikes Back

The newest installment of the 90 Day Fiance spinoff airs. The series follows the stars of the recent season as they rewatch their episodes while also watching commentary from Pillow Talk as well as feedback from social media. Episodes will air Mondays at 3:01 am ET on Discovery+.

A Perfect Planet

The new five-part series from Sir David Attenborough and the award-winning team behind the original Planet Earth and The Hunt. The series explains how the living planet operates, showing how the forces of nature – weather, ocean currents, solar energy, and volcanoes – drive, shape, and support Earth’s great diversity of life. In doing so, it reveals how animals are perfectly adapted to whatever the environment throws at them. The limited series will run 5 episodes with a 2 episode premiere. Race Across the World

The new competition series has five teams of two racing from point A to B. Each team must travel across the globe by whatever means they can: foot, car, bicycle, boat, bus, ferry, motorbike, horse … with only the price of a flight ticket in their pocket (which will have to cover their food and accommodation), it’s set to be the ultimate globe-trotting expedition. Who will make it in the quickest time and win a big cash prize? Episodes will air on Mondays at 3:01 am ET on Discovery+.

Say Yes to the Dress: In Sickness and In Health

During the COVID epidemic, brides have had their wedding dreams crushed. The team of Randy Fenoli and Hayley Paige will stop at nothing to help these women still have their special day. Episodes will air on Mondays at 3:01 am ET on Discovery+.

Six Degrees With Mike Rowe

The Wall

Season 4 of the Lebron James reality competition show premieres. Every day people battle a variety of trivia questions and a 40-foot wall for a chance to win millions of dollars. New episodes air every Monday at 9 pm ET on NBC.

Tuesday, January 5th

The History of Swear Words

Nicolas Cage hosts this proudly profane series that explores the history and impact of some of the most notorious bad words in the English language. The season will be 6 episodes long, and all of the episodes will be available on Tuesday, January 5th, on Netflix.

The Real Housewives of Dallas

Returning for season five are Housewives: Brandi Redmond, D’Andra Simmons, Kameron Westcott, Kary Brittingham, and Stephanie Hollman. New housewife and physician Tiffany Moon join this season, wasting no time inserting herself into the drama with the ladies. Jennifer Davis Long, a friend of the ladies, will also appear throughout the season. New episodes will be available every Tuesday at 9 pm on Bravo.

Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist

The second season of the musical dramady premieres. Season 2 will look more into the reasons behind why Zoey was granted this musical gift. There will also be no shortage of drama in the love triangle between Zoey, Max, and Simon. We will also see some new faces this season as Felix Mallard, Jee Young Han, and Harvey Guillén have joined the cast. Young Han will play Emily’s older sister Jenna Kang. She’ll show up to help Emily and David with their new baby but will end up forming a strong relationship with Zoey’s mom Maggie. Meanwhile, Guillén has been cast to play George, an overeager programmer who is trying to please Zoey and the rest of his colleagues at SPRQ Point. Finally, Mallard will play Aiden, Zoey’s childhood friend and neighbor who is finally returning to San Francisco after spending many years backpacking through Asia. Also, Andrew Leeds and Alice Lee, who play Zoey’s brother David and sister-in-law Emily, and Michael Thomas Grant and Kapil Talwalkar, who play SPRQ Point employees Leif and Tobin, have all been bumped up to series regulars, so we can assume we will be seeing a lot more of them this season. New episodes will air every Tuesday at 8 pm ET on NBC.

Wednesday, January 6th

House in a Hurry

In the new episodes, each house-hunting couple will work with a real estate agent who they have never met in person, hitting the ground running to find a home in just one weekend. New episodes will air on Wednesdays at 8 pm ET on HGTV.

Kitchen Crash

The new series follows professional chefs as they head to a local neighborhood block for an outdoor cook-off. With only 10 minutes on the clock, each chef must convince a local homeowner on the cul-de-sac to hand over ingredients from their kitchens and pantries, with the caveat that the competing chefs can only use the items that the homeowners can fit into one bin. With no additional pantry items and no option to restock, the chefs must ration what they are given for the entire competition. The chef that can make the most delicious dishes using only the ingredients in the average American kitchen will earn a cash prize to split with the family who provided the ingredients. The season will be 6 episodes long, with new episodes airing every Wednesday at 10 pm ET on Food Network.

Name That Tune

The revamped series tests contestants’ music knowledge as they battle it out in an assortment of challenging musical games for cash and prizes. Jane Krakowski will host, and Randy Jackson will serve as band leader. New episodes will air every Wednesday at 9 pm ET on FOX.

Surviving Death

The new docuseries explores personal stories and research on near-death experiences, reincarnation, and paranormal phenomena to help answer the question of what happens when we die. The entire season will be available on Wednesday, January 6th, on Netflix.

Thursday, January 7th

Celebrity Wheel of Fortune

The new spinoff is hosted by pop culture legends Pat Sajak and Vanna White, “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune” welcomes celebrity contestants to come to spin the world’s most famous wheel and solve word puzzles for a chance to win up to one million dollars. All of the money won by the celebrity contestants will go to a charity of their choice. New episodes will air every Thursday at 8 pm ET on ABC.

The Chase

The new competition series is a heart-racing quiz show where three competitors must pit their wits and face off against the Chaser, a ruthless quiz genius determined to stop them from winning cash prizes. Each hour-long episode is a fast-paced battle of brainpower, where contestants are challenged to think faster than they ever thought possible to answer up to 166 questions across all topics. New episodes air Thursdays at 9 pm ET on ABC.

Coyote

The series, which was originally supposed to air on Paramount Network, stars Michael Chiklis as a former American border patrol agent who now finds work on the other side of the border. All 6 episodes will be available to watch on Thursday, January 7th, on CBS All Access.

Go-Big Show

The new competition series features everything, from monster trucks, alligator and snake trainers, stunt archery, world record holders, and other radical feats; the program celebrates daring acts alongside personal, behind-the-scenes stories from the challengers as they battle head-to-head to impress the judges and advance toward the finale’s ultimate $100,000 prize. Bert Kreischer hosts with celebrity judges Snoop Dogg, Rosario Dawson, Jennifer Nettles, and Cody Rhodes. The season will be 10 episodes, with new episodes airing every Thursday at 9 pm ET on TBS.

Growing Up Hip Hop Atlanta

In the 4th season of the hit music reality show, Bow Wow’s past comes back to haunt him when a mystery woman leaks a shocking secret. Da Brat’s in love but can’t escape the drama in the dirty A. Ms. Deb drops a bomb that threatens Waka and Tammy’s core beliefs and their happiness. Plus, Ayana Fite’s struggles with Covid. The season will be 10 episodes long, and new episodes will air every Thursday at 9 pm ET on WE TV.

Hell’s Kitchen

The hit culinary competition show returns for its 19th season, but this time they will be in Las Vegas. 16 aspiring chefs from around the country to compete for the grand prize, which includes a Head Chef position at Gordon Ramsay Hell’s Kitchen Lake Tahoe at Harvey’s Hotel and Casino and the title of champion. New episodes will air every Thursday at 8 pm ET on FOX.

The Hustler

Craig Ferguson hosts the new game show where a team of contestants must work together to answer questions worth $10,000 each. However, one member of the group has been given the answers in advance, and that person (The Hustler) will win the entire pool of money if they are able to keep their identity a secret. New episodes will air every Thursday at 10 pm ET on ABC.

Mr. Mayor

The new NBC comedy series from Tina Fey and Robert Carlock was originally supposed to be a 30 Rock spinoff. The series follows a retired businessman (Ted Danson) who runs for mayor of Los Angeles to prove he’s “still got it.” Once he wins, he has to figure out what he stands for, gain the respect of his biggest critic (Holly Hunter) and connect with his teenage daughter, all while trying to get anything right for America’s second weirdest city. The series will have a two-episode premiere with new episodes following every Thursday at 8 pm ET on NBC.

The Real Blac Chyna

The new reality series reveals the behind-the-scenes dynamics of Chyna’s life and relationships never before showcased on screen, including her ongoing efforts to change the direction of her sometimes controversial and always complex life, including relationship statuses with her mom Tokyo Toni, her exes, various lawsuits, business ventures, and more. The season will be 13 episodes, with new episodes airing every Thursday at 10 pm ET on WE TV.

Friday, January 8th

Dickinson

Season 2 will explore Emily’s position on fame as she realizes that the pursuit of fame might be a dangerous game for her to play. Season 2 will also include Nick Kroll and Timothy Simons as guest stars. The season will be 10 episodes, with 3 episodes airing on the first week with one episode airing a week after that on Fridays at 12:01 am ET on Apple TV.

Marvel Studios: Legends

The new series serves as an exciting refresher for the various heroes and villains making their way to the highly anticipated streaming shows premiering on Disney+, setting the stage for the upcoming adventures. The first two episodes will feature Wanda Maximoff and Vision, which will air the first week. New episodes will air every Friday at 3:01 am ET on Disney+.

Penn & Teller: Fool Us

The magic duo is back for a seventh season! Each episode features aspiring magicians who are invited to perform their best trick to try and fool the world-famous team of Penn & Teller. Anyone who succeeds wins the right to perform with Penn & Teller in their celebrated show at the Rio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. New episodes will air every Friday at 9 pm ET on The CW.

Pretend It’s A City

In the new mini-series, Fran Lebowitz comments on her life and on different aspects of New York City in a series directed by Martin Scorsese. The entire series will be available on Friday, January 8th, on Netflix.

Self-Made Mansions

Entrepreneurs who struck it rich with one brilliant idea and are now ready to make the ultimate upgrade to a high-end home will get the guidance they need from lifestyle expert Clinton Kelly. The season will be 7 episodes, with new episodes airing every Friday at 8 pm ET on HGTV.

Whose Line Is It Anyway?

The improv comedy show is back for more laughs. Aisha Tyler now hosts with OG cast members Ryan Stiles, Wayne Brady, and Colin Mochrie, and a celebrity guest. New episodes will air on Fridays at 8 pm ET on The CW.

Saturday, January 9th

A Discovery of Witches

The second season plunges Diana and Matthew into Elizabethan London, a world of spies and subterfuge, and a coterie of Matthew’s old friends, the mysterious School of Night. The season will be 10 episodes, with new episodes airing every Saturday at 3:01 am ET on Sundance Now!
