Netflix and the BBC have announced a Peaky Blinders sequel with two brand-new series following the Shelby family into a dangerous new era after the upcoming feature film.
The Shelby family is officially returning. Netflix and the BBC have announced that Peaky Blinders will continue with two brand-new sequel series, marking the beginning of a bold new chapter in Steven Knight’s acclaimed drama.
Each of the upcoming series will feature six 60-minute episodes, with production set to take place at Digbeth Loc. Studios in Birmingham. The shows will follow the timeline established in the much-anticipated Peaky Blinders feature film, which is currently in post-production. Both series are being produced by Kudos (SAS Rogue Heroes, House of Guinness, Grantchester) and Garrison Drama (Peaky Blinders series 1–6, The Peaky Blinders Film).
Set in 1953, the sequel begins in a Birmingham still scarred by World War II. With the city rebuilding itself out of concrete and steel, opportunity and danger are everywhere. At the heart of it all, the next generation of Shelbys takes control, as the family becomes central to a brutal contest over Birmingham’s massive reconstruction project.
The new chapter brings back some familiar creative forces. Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders, returns as writer and showrunner. Cillian Murphy joins as executive producer, alongside Karen Wilson and Martin Haines for Kudos, Jamie Glazebrook for Garrison Drama, and Jo McClellan for the BBC. Mona Qureshi and Toby Bentley will oversee the project for Netflix.
Knight expressed his excitement for this new era, saying: “I’m thrilled to be announcing this new chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. Once again it will be rooted in Birmingham and will tell the story of a city rising from the ashes of the Birmingham blitz. The new generation of Shelbys have taken the wheel and it will be a hell of a ride.”
Netflix’s Mona Qureshi echoed that enthusiasm, noting: “We couldn’t be more excited to be embarking on a new chapter of Peaky Blinders with our wonderful partners at Kudos, Garrison Drama and the BBC. There are few modern storytellers to match Steven Knight and we will be on the edge of our seats as he returns to the streets of Birmingham and to the next generation of the Shelby family. Along with our global audience, we are ready to be captivated anew!”
Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, emphasized the importance of the show’s return: “This game-changing show made a huge impact when it first came to our screens 12 years ago and it is one of the BBC’s most-loved dramas. Steven has worked his magic once again and I can’t wait for his scripts to be brought to life when filming begins in Birmingham. We are delighted to be working with Kudos, Garrison Drama and Netflix on this epic show. There’s plenty of drama for Peaky fans to look forward to!”
Patrick Holland, CEO of Banijay UK, added: “Peaky Blinders is one of the most iconic, era-defining dramas of our time and Banijay UK is delighted to be helping to bring Steven Knight’s vision for the epic next chapters to life. Made by a brilliant new production partnership, led by Karen Wilson at Kudos, with Jamie Glazebrook from Garrison Drama, the story of the next generation of Shelbys will grip Peaky fans old and new.”
With two new series on the way, the Shelby legacy is far from over—and this next chapter promises to be just as thrilling, violent, and unforgettable as the first.
