Our Top Five Favorite Shakira Songs To Celebrate Her Birthday

It’s Shakira’s birthday, so why not go down memory lane and pick out some of our favorite songs by her. We’re giving you our top 5 picks!

Shakira has blessed us for so many years with amazing songs and performances.

So for her birthday we’re giving you our top favorites throughout the years!

‘Hips Don’t Lie’

You can’t tell us that you never jammed out to this song.

You possibly even tried to imitate Shakira’s very good belly dancing and maybe failed. At least you tried!

‘Hips Don’t Lie’ was part of Shakira’s album Oral Fixation Vol. 2 which was her second English language album and seventh studio album.

This song was on repeat all the time and it’s safe to say we still have it in our playlist after all these years.

Did you watch the live Grammy performance for this song? If not, watch it below!

‘Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)’

2010 was an amazing year because Shakira gifted us with quite possibly the greatest World Cup song of all time ‘Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)’.

This song also marked an important moment for Shakira because she met her now partner Gerard Piqué.

The pair have two kids together and even share the same birthday!

As of right now, the video has accumulated almost three billion views since its initial release.

The video below is a performance of the song during the closing ceremony of the World Cup, just in case you want to relive that moment.

‘Whenever, Whenever’

The song in either English or in Spanish is a bop!

The music video itself had me mesmerized as a child because I never understood how Shakira was able to come out of the water and land so gracefully.

While I know now it was a green screen, it still doesn’t take away the fact that the video, added with Shakira’s dancing and outfit, was epic.

The song was also performed during the Super Bowl Half-Time show!

‘She Wolf’

‘She Wolf’ was the lead single for Shakira’s eighth studio album also called She Wolf.

The song itself was released in July 2009 while the album was released in October of the same year.

Shakira, in an interview with Rolling Stone, revealed that the song came to her when she was in a bad mood one day. She went off into a corner and wrote the lyrics in just 10 minutes.

The video for the song starts off with Shakira waking up to the full moon and her nails growing. She then puts on some boots, heads into her closet, and the music begins. Most of the video is Shakira in a red cave and inside a gold cage.

All we can say is: ICONIC.

‘Chantaje’ Featuring Maluma

‘Chantaje’ marked the first of three collaborations between the two Colombian artists.

Maluma previously provided vocals for Shakira’s song ‘La Bicicleta Remix’ with Carlos Vives but ‘Chantaje’ would feature only them two.

After its release in October, the song became the second highest sales week for a Spanish-language track in 2016.

The song and its video provide a clear story which is a guy who is chasing after an unattainable woman. In this case, Maluma is the guy and Shakira is the woman.

The song is empowering and of course we get to see Shakira dance (again!) which is great. By the way, Shakira would look great with pink hair if she ever chooses to dye it!

With that being said, we wish Shakira the happiest of birthdays this year. She has given us so much these past few years and we can’t wait to see what else she has in store.
