New York Fashion Week Looks Over The Years

New York Fashion Week kicked off last week, so we looked into some of the most iconic styles over the years from designers like Betsy Johnson, Tawfik Mounayer, and more!

New York Fashion Week is back after its opening this past Wednesday, and it is running full swing! This is the first time back after going off of three seasons of no in-person shows due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After not being able to dress to the nines because there was no reason, we can now style our favorite essentials and try new trends.

New trends pop off every season; fashion is always changing and that’s what makes it so fun. We went from bell-bottoms in the 70s to slip dresses and skirts in the 90s and now to the iconic matching sets in 2021. So what did NYFW look like a couple of years ago? Here are a few of the most show-stopping looks over the years.

1991 – Donna Karan

This is one of the simplest, yet most beautiful looks. Cindy Crawford is modeling a Donna Karan piece during New York Fashion Week in 1991. The blue denim with gold accent buttons and jewelry complement each other in the best way.

How could you not appreciate this? The colors are absolutely stunning and anything high-waisted is a gimme! This model rocked the two-piece orchid print swimsuit.

2000 – Vivienne Tam

Sexy and mature? That’s a win-win! The olive green adds just the right amount of color to an otherwise very dark outfit, but it doesn’t take away from the pattern in the blouse! This would’ve been a go-to date night outfit back in 2001.

2002 – BCBG Max Azria

This is such an early 2000s look; it’s so nostalgic! This model absolutely kills the low-waisted denim stretch skirt. The white top brightens up the whole outfit and brings the skirt to life. Also, what’s not to love about the sheer floral design on the top?

2003 – Tawfik Mounayer

How is it possible to get over this blue?! While the dress lacks in pattern, the shiny baby blue makes this the most eye-catching look. Hello, cocktail party!

2001 – Manuel Fernandez (Honorable mention)

This look was impossible not to share. This might be one of the prettiest patterns to exist with the most alluring details to tie it all together. Also, the baby pink accessories? Can’t. Get. Enough.

While we mourn the loss of some of our favorite trends from the years, we can welcome the newest and greatest trends shown in this year’s New York Fashion Week.
