Taiwan’s Oscar submission Left-Handed Girl debuts its main trailer and key art ahead of its theatrical release and Netflix premiere this November.
Netflix has unveiled the main trailer and key art for Left-Handed Girl, which will premiere in select theaters on November 14 before arriving on the streamer globally on November 28. The film has already been chosen as Taiwan’s official submission for Best International Film at the 2026 Academy Awards, marking it as one of the most highly anticipated international releases of the year.
Left-Handed Girl follows the story of a single mother and her two daughters who return to Taipei after years in the countryside to open a food stand in the bustling night market. Each member of the family faces the challenge of adapting to a new environment while trying to keep their bond intact. Their lives take a dramatic turn when the family’s traditional grandfather forbids his youngest granddaughter from using her “devil hand,” a left hand he considers taboo. As the restriction sets in, long-buried family secrets begin to surface, threatening the very unity they are fighting to preserve.
The film is directed and co-written by Shih-Ching Tsou, with screenwriting credits also shared by Sean Baker. Tsou also produces alongside Baker, Mike Goodridge, Jean Labadie, and Alice Labadie. Production companies backing the feature include Left-Handed Girl Film Production, LHG Films LTD, Good Chaos, and Le Pacte.
The cast features Shih-Yuan Ma, Janel Tsai, Nina Ye, and Teng-Hui Huang, who bring the intergenerational family drama to life against the vibrant backdrop of Taipei’s night markets.
Left-Handed Girl not only showcases the struggles of a family navigating cultural pressures and generational divides but also shines a spotlight on Taiwanese cinema’s growing global recognition. With its compelling narrative and international awards buzz, the film is set to resonate strongly with audiences when it debuts later this year.
