Shih-Ching Tsou’s Cannes-acclaimed Left-Handed Girl gets a Netflix debut of November 28 following its limited theatrical run starting November 14.
Shih-Ching Tsou’s Left-Handed Girl is making its way to audiences this fall with an official release set for November. The intimate and deeply personal family drama will premiere in select theaters on November 14 before heading to Netflix on November 28.
Tsou, who co-directed Take-Out and produced the Cannes-winning Anora, steps into the spotlight as a solo director for the first time with Left-Handed Girl. The film had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival as part of the Critics’ Week lineup and draws heavily from Tsou’s own childhood in Taipei, Taiwan, along with stories collected from friends and relatives.
Co-written, produced, and edited by longtime collaborator Sean Baker, Left-Handed Girl follows a single mother and her two daughters as they move back to Taipei from the countryside to start anew. They open a stall in a vibrant night market, struggling to adjust to the bustling environment while trying to keep their family bond intact. But when their traditional grandfather forbids the youngest daughter — who is left-handed — from using what he calls her “devil hand,” the family is forced to confront long-buried secrets and generational tensions.
The cast includes Shih-Yuan Ma, Janel Tsai, Nina Ye, and Teng-Hui Huang. The film is produced by Left-Handed Girl Film Production, LHG Films LTD, Good Chaos, and Le Pacte, with producers Tsou, Baker, Mike Goodridge, Jean Labadie, and Alice Labadie backing the project.
With its heartfelt themes, cultural specificity, and personal roots, Left-Handed Girl promises to deliver a powerful look at family, identity, and resilience when it hits theaters and Netflix this November.
