This Year’s Host

Comedian Shane Gillis, creator and star of the Netflix comedy Tires and co-host of Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast, is taking the stage as this year’s host.

“I’m excited to be at The ESPYS this year,” said Gillis. “I like sports so this should be a good time.”

Gillis is currently on an international stand-up tour and is no stranger to the sports world—he’s appeared in a Super Bowl ad alongside Peyton Manning and Post Malone, and starred in a Notre Dame rally video.

“Shane is not only one of the top comedians today, but also a huge sports fan, which made him an easy choice to host The ESPYS,” said Craig Lazarus, ESPN’s VP and executive producer of The ESPYS.

Special Honorees

This year’s ESPYS will present three prestigious honorary awards:

Arthur Ashe Award for Courage: Oscar Robertson, National Basketball Hall of Famer

Jimmy V Award for Perseverance: Katie Schumacher-Cawley, Penn State women’s volleyball coach

Pat Tillman Award for Service: David Walters and Erin Regan, Greater Los Angeles first responders and former athletes

Giving Back

As always, The ESPYS continues its mission to raise funds and awareness for the V Foundation for Cancer Research, which ESPN co-founded with the late basketball coach Jim Valvano in 1993. Since its inception, the foundation has raised over $250 million for cancer research.
