Everything You Need To Remember for ‘Space Force’ Season 2!

May the force be with you… Here’s your series recap of Space Force just in time for the premiere of season 2!

Space Force has returned to Earth – or rather, to Netflix with a second season! The incredible cast alone is convincing enough to keep us wanting more from the series, but the storyline is just as refreshing and funny as its actors. Keep on reading for a recap of season 1!

Space Force introduces us to Marc Naird (Steve Carell), a newly four-star general and former number two pilot at the air force. He is appointed as the leader of the new Space Force, a force requested by the POTUS in order to get boots on the moon by 2024.

Fast forward to one year later in Wildhorse, Colorado where the remainder of the season takes place. We are introduced to Naird’s simpleton office assistant Brad Gregory (Don Lake), the outspoken head scientist Dr. Adrian Mallory (John Malkovich), who seems to be Naird’s second-hand man and the true brains behind Space Force operations, and the suspicious, young Yuri ‘Bobby’ Teletovich (Alex Sparrow) who is a Russian asset that tries to get close with Naird’s daughter for Space Force information. We also meet Space Force’s egotistic and unethical media relations specialist Tony Scarapiducci (Ben Schwartz) who more commoly goes by the nickname “Fuck Tony”, and the promising, hardworking OCS (Officer Candidate School) Captain Angela Ali (Tawny Newsome).

Although General Naird wants to be close with his rebellious daughter Erin (Diana Silvers), there is tension in their relationship because she is mad about their recent move to Colorado. The tension is also likely apparent because Naird’s wife and mother of Erin, Maggie (Lisa Kudrow) is in prison, but her reason for being there is never fully explained. To add to Naird’s stress, he often has to keep an eye on his unwell parents, who require a caretaker.

When Naird goes to visit Maggie in prison, she says that she wants him to have companionship with someone else because she will be in prison for a long time, but at the moment Naird refuses to do so. However, later on in the season, Naird agrees to Maggie’s offer on an open marriage, and he starts to develop a romance with structural engineer and civil rights contractor Kelly (Jessica St. Clair).

Throughout the season the Space Force team is preparing to launch into space. Dr. Mallory is busy leading his group of scientists, including second-hand man Dr. Chan Kaifang (Jimmy O. Yang), through numerous launching tests and experiments. Sarcastic Chan becomes close with the bright Captain Angela Ali, and the two begin a romance that we are bound to see develop in the second season.

Although Captain Ali is put under pressure as the leader of incapable and unprepared astronauts, she makes history as the first black woman to step on the moon upon their successful launch into space. Naird, Dr. Mallory, and the Space Force team celebrate this incredible win of landing on the moon.

However, when Chinese astronauts run over the U.S. flag on the moon – a sure sign of disrespect and violence – the Space Force team is ordered to retaliate. General Naird and Dr. Mallory’s refusal to retaliate gets them arrested, and Naird’s co-worker nemesis, General Kick Grabaston (Noah Emmerich), takes over commanding the U.S. astronauts to retaliate.

Season 1 ends with Captain Ali and her fellow spacemen in a pickle on the moon: China has destroyed their base. Captain Naird escapes the building after his arrest, but is advised by assistant Brad to return to help save the spacemen.

From Naird’s stressful, demanding job to his less-than-perfect family, we hope that we can continue to see successes from him and the Space Force team, which includes bringing Captain Ali and the astronauts safely back home.
