Everything We Know So Far About Kanye West’s Documentary

Netflix recently bought a documentary series on Kanye West’s life. Here’s everything we know so far about the project plus fan reactions!

Recent news of an upcoming Kanye West documentary had fans and social media users buzzing. The multi-part docuseries has yet to be titled, but here’s everything we know so far about the special upcoming doc!

Coodie & Chike are directing the project

The music video producing duo Clarence “Coodie” Simmons and Chike Ozah have been directing West’s documentary. Coodie and Chike have worked alongside West previously, directing and producing his 2004 music videos “Jesus Walks (Version 3)” and “Through the Wire.” The duo’s past documentary work includes Benji for ESPN’s 30 For 30 series in 2012, and A Kid From Coney Island, a 2019 documentary on a former professional basketball player, Stephon Marbury. Coodie & Chike’s production company, Creative Control, is producing the project alongside TIME Studios.

The footage documents the past 20-plus years of West’s life

The directors of the project have been documenting the past two decades of West’s wild career. Simmons’ long-standing relationship with West is reportedly the center of the docu-series, bringing West’s story to life from an inside perspective. The series will include home videos and never-before-seen footage of the rapper-producer. Everything from his long-standing music career, the death of his mother, his streetwear empire “Yeezy,” and his recent presidential run, will be covered in the film.

Netflix bought the documentary

According to Billboard, the streaming giant recently acquired the documentary. While Billboard reported that it was sold for $30 Million, a source familiar with the matter told Variety that the price tag “was not an accurate figure.” The project is reportedly set to debut later this year on Netflix.

The streaming giant has released a number of compelling documentaries in the past —which includes Michael Jordan, Biggie, Travis Scott, and Ariana Grande— and will soon have another big name added to the roster. We can’t wait to see what this docu-series has in store!
