The show is based on Bonnie Gramus’ 2022 novel Lessons in Chemistry. It was named Barnes & Noble’s Book of the Year in 2022 and quickly grew in popularity. Before the book was even released, Apple TV announced they bought the rights to the book and attached Brie Larson as the executive producer and star.

The story follows Elizabeth Zott, who dreams of being a chemist. She lands the job of her dreams at a prestigious lab, but a turn of events gets her fired. She reluctantly accepts a job as a host of a cooking show on television called “Supper at Six.” Instead of losing hope in chemistry, she uses her show to teach cooking while strategically throwing in Lessons in Chemistry.

The cooking show only encompasses part of the plot. The story also features a beautiful love story and mother-daughter relationship. Despite the social norms of the patriarchal society, Elizabeth Zott never changes who she is and blossoms into an inspiration for women of her time.

Who is bringing these characters to life?

Oscar winner Brie Larson leads the cast as yet another powerful female character, Elizabeth Zott. She is joined by Lewis Pullman (Top Gun Maverick), Aja Naomi King (How to Get Away With Murder), Stephanie Koenig (Flight Attendant), Kevin Sussman (The Dropout), Patrick Walker (Gaslit), and Thomas Mann (Me And Earl And The Dying Girl). Of course, we can’t forget about the adorable dog, Six-Thirty.

Make sure you keep Fridays open until November 24. You won’t want to miss your weekly lessons in chemistry!
