Emily Ratajkowski Welcomes Her First Child

Emily Ratajkowski gives birth to first child, Sylvester Apollo, with Sebastian Bear-McClard.

Emily Ratajkowski is officially a mom! After a self-described “love-filled” birth, the model, actress, and activist welcomed her first child. Ratajkowski went to Instagram to introduce Sylvester Apollo Bear to the world. The sunlit photo included Emily cuddling the newborn as she announced Sylvester joined them “Earthside” on March 8th.

Emily Ratajkowski is celebrating the birth of her child with her husband, actor, and producer Sebastian Bear-McClard. In February of 2018, Ratajkowski married Bear-McClard after several weeks of dating in a surprise New York City courthouse wedding. The Gone Girl actress and her husband made their new home in the NoHo neighborhood of Manhattan. Just two years later, the pair decided to expand their family when Emily announced her pregnancy to the world. In an announcement video for Vogue Magazine directed by Emily’s longtime pal and Girls creator Lena Dunham, Emily showed off her newfound baby bump and the couple’s shared apartment.

In an expanded essay written for Vogue’s website, Emily got incredibly candid about how she wanted to approach the topic of gender with her child. She said that she found it frustrating how focused curious parties were on the gender of her baby as opposed to what kind of person they might become. The pressures of gendered societal norms can weigh in on a child even before they are born. Ratajkowski described watching gender reveal parties on social media as an eye-opening experience as she noticed one parent is usually dissatisfied. All of this led to Emily and her husband deciding to forgo assigning gender until their child is eighteen and can decide for themself.

Since the article with Vogue, Emily has been keeping fans thoroughly updated on her pregnancy via Instagram. She also took the time to write a collection of essays in, My Body. In My Body, these essays tackle several topics throughout her life including her pregnancy. The book is expected to be released in October, but we hope to see more from Emily Ratajkowski before then. Congratulations to the new family!
