AFTERBUZZ TV – AfterBuzz TV’s Spotlight On edition, is a long form interview series featuring actors and TV personalities discussing their roles and shows as well as their thoughts, passions and journeys. In this episode host Erica Green interviews Corina Calderon.

ABOUT CORINA CALDERON:
Corina Calderon is a Mexican-American actress best known for her role as Jazmine on “End of Watch” directed by David Ayer and starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena. She was born in Moline, ILL, and is the eldest of 3 girls to Mexican parents, Nora Martinez and Robert Calderon, a musician. Growing up in Austin, TX, at the age of 4, Calderon started performing Ballet Folklorico with a local dance group lead by her grandmother. At age 15 Calderon started waiting tables in order to pay for her own acting classes and head shots. She then started to attend theater classes at Austin Community College, but then went on to study with Mona Lee, Ben Taylor and Van Brooks at 2 Chairs Studio. While taking acting classes, Calderon continued to pursue dancing and became apart of a dance team for a local hip hop radio station.

Before moving to Los Angeles in 2010, with the help of Sally Allen and Toni Cobb Brock, Calderon booked her first lead role in a feature film, “All She Can” after which she was named “Actress to watch at the 2011 Sundance Film Fest” on Deadline.com and was recognized by Hollywood Reporter stating, “…auspicious debut as a leading lady.” Her work was praised by many including Amy Wendel, the writer and director of “All She Can” stating, ” This is someone who will go on to show the world something interesting.” In 2012, Calderon was nominated along side Gina Rodriquez, Eva Longoria and Eva Mendes for best film actress at the Imagen Foundation Awards. Most recently she recurred in several episodes of the TNT hit series “Murder in the First” created by Stephen Bochco and starring Taye DIggs. As well as working alongside Emmy nominated actor Richard Cabral in “Khali the Killer” soon to be released later in 2016. Also this August 2016, Calderon will be appearing in the highly anticipated DC Comics film, “Suicide Squad” working with David Ayer again.
