Building The Band Premieres July 9 With Big-Name Judges

Backstreet Boys’ AJ McLean hosts Building the Band, a unique music competition where singers form bands without ever meeting—premiering July 9, 2025.

Music fans, get ready for a bold new spin on the band formation journey. Building the Band, a brand-new competition series, premieres July 9, 2025, promising unmatched vocal talent, high-stakes decision-making, and dramatic first impressions—all without a single face-to-face meeting.

Hosted by Backstreet Boys star AJ McLean, this 10-episode series centers on a daring concept: singers must build their perfect band from scratch without ever laying eyes on each other. Working from individual booths, contestants rely solely on voice, musical chemistry, and emotional connection to form their dream lineup. Appearance, dance ability, and stage presence come into play only after the bands are fully formed—turning the usual music competition formula on its head.

Adding to the show’s credibility and star power is Nicole Scherzinger, lead singer of The Pussycat Dolls, who serves as the show’s mentor and lead judge. Starting in Episode 7, she’ll be joined by two music icons—Kelly Rowland of Destiny’s Child and the late Liam Payne of One Direction—whose pre-recorded appearances will lend authentic insights and personal experience from their own time in globally successful bands.

The series will unfold in three weekly drops:

Week 1 (July 9): Episodes 1–4

Week 2 (July 16): Episodes 5–7

Week 3 (July 23): Episodes 8–10

With its fresh approach, heartfelt performances, and emotionally charged twists, Building the Band aims to discover not just individual stars, but groups with true artistic synergy. The stakes? The chance to become the next great band that captures hearts—and charts.
