Billy Joel cancels all 2025–2026 tour dates after being diagnosed with rare brain condition that affects hearing, vision, and balance.
Billy Joel is stepping away from the stage following a serious health diagnosis. The iconic 76-year-old singer-songwriter has cancelled all of his scheduled tour dates through 2025 and 2026 after being diagnosed with Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH)—a rare brain condition that impacts hearing, vision, and balance.
The “Piano Man“ singer, known for timeless hits like “Uptown Girl” and “We Didn’t Start the Fire”, was recently advised by his doctors to stop performing live. A statement released on his behalf confirmed that the decision was made after recent concert performances worsened his condition.
“Billy is thankful for the excellent care he is receiving and is fully committed to prioritising his health,” the statement read. “He is grateful for the support from fans during this time and looks forward to the day when he can once again take the stage.”
Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus, often affecting those over 60, is caused by a buildup of fluid in the brain and is considered uncommon and poorly understood. Joel is undergoing targeted physical therapy as part of his treatment and has been told to refrain from performing during his recovery.
The impact of the diagnosis has led to the cancellation of 17 shows across the US, Canada, and the UK. That includes major stadium performances at Edinburgh’s Murrayfield and Liverpool’s Anfield scheduled for next summer.
“I’m sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding,” Joel said in a message to fans.
Earlier this year, the music legend had already postponed shows in March due to a then-unspecified medical condition following surgery and physical therapy.
Billy Joel, who wrapped a record-breaking monthly residency at Madison Square Garden last year, has remained a major touring force for decades. With 23 Grammy nominations and five wins, plus an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999, his contributions to music are monumental.
Now, fans around the world are sending well wishes as the beloved artist focuses on healing.
