Asher Monroe (Singer) Interview | AfterBuzz TV’s Spotlight On

AFTERBUZZ TV – AfterBuzz TV’s Spotlight On edition, is a long form interview series featuring Actors and TV personalities discussing their roles and shows as well as their thoughts, passions and journeys. In this episode hosts Jason Ikeler and Whitney Lane interview Asher Monroe.

Born in Arlington, Virginia in 1988, Asher Monroe began his professional music career at seven years old. For his first big break, he landed the role of teacup Chip in the national tour of the Broadway production “Beauty and the Beast.” To help financially support his family, he continued booking principal roles in national tours including “Oliver”, “The Sound of Music”, and “The Prince & The Pauper”. Between 2000 and 2002, he attended the famed Professional Performing Arts School in New York City, after which he moved to Los Angeles. Fresh out of high school in 2006, Monroe was signed by the VP of A&R at Warner Bros as the lead singer of the boy band V Factory.  Following the release of their first top 40 single, he went on to star in multiple roles on TV and film, including ”Parenthood” and MGM’s remake of “Fame”.  After V Factory disbanded under Warner, Monroe secured an endorsement deal with the premium functional beverage company Neuro and signed on as the flagship artist to the new music label D Empire Entertainment in 2011.

When Monroe’s first solo music video for “Like I Do” hit YouTube, it created a fan frenzy… racking up more than 1.6 million views, half of them within the first 24 hours alone. His next four videos, “Hello Baby” “Every Night”, “Here With You”, and “Hush Hush” passed the million view mark just days after each video debut. He quickly garnered international radio/TV coverage as well as extensive features on Huffington Post, Forbes, Just Jared, MTV, CBS, and the December 2012 cover of Billboard Magazine. After embarking on a 20-city co-headlining tour across the US, “Here With You” officially broke the top 10 on the Billboard dance charts. Monroe was then asked to perform at KIIS FM’s Wango Tango, Logo’s New Next Now Awards, MTV’s OMA Awards, and the Queen Latifah Show, amongst other nationally aired engagements.

Monroe’s latest release music video was shot and directed in Bosnia by Academy Award winning director for best foreign film, Danis Tanovic. Co-written/produced by Monroe, the premiere of “Hush Hush” on MTV Buzzworthy/Hits propelled his title as one of MTV’s Top 10 Artists to Watch and ultimately landed him another top 10 single on the Billboard charts.

In early 2013, Monroe headed back into the studio to co-write/produce his first official solo album. Album collaborators include multi-Grammy winning producers and recording artists Ryan Tedder, Chris Brown, Sean Kingston and Senior VP of A&R for Def Jam, Bu Thiam (A&R for Jay-Z and Kanye West’s Watch The Throne and Rihanna’s Talk That Talk). After co-writing the album’s lead single “Memory” with Chris Brown, the duo filmed the upcoming music video, set to release after the new year.

Monroe’s album is shaping up to be a stylistically varied collection of beat-driven songs with irresistible pop melodies, big choruses, and heartfelt lyrics that anyone who has ever loved and lost can relate to. Based in Los Angeles, Asher is currently splitting time between writing, recording, visiting radio stations, and prepping for his upcoming shows.
