Anticipated Disney+ TV Shows Coming in 2023!

Since Disney+ was created in 2019, there have been many shows we can’t get enough of. This year Disney+ will see some new shows and the return of fan favorites; here’s what we have to look forward to!

Loki Season 2

Loki will be released in a new season this summer, as confirmed at San Diego’s Comic-Con by Marvel Studios. This announcement comes a month after the show’s filming started. The titular character, Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston will be returning, as well as Sophia Di Martino who plays Sylvie.

We will also be seeing Owen Wilson as Mobius M. Mobius and Jonathon Majors as Kang the Conqueror, who is a variant of He Who Remains. There will also be new faces such as Kate Dickie from Game of Thrones and Ke Huy Quan, star of Everything Everywhere All at Once. From last season, fans were left on a cliffhanger, and this season what we can expect is Loki taking a leap into the unknown with the Multiverse fully establish and a war on the cusp of breaking out….”

While there is no official trailer for the new season, on December 19th, 2022, Disney Plus uploaded a video called Streaming in 2023 | Feels Like Home | Disney+ which is narrated by Tom Hiddleston and shows a few snippets of clips from Loki season 2.

With the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the post-credit scene gives a big answer to one of the Loki mysteries. Fans have taken to Twitter to share their feelings about the upcoming season and the post-credit reveal.

The Mandalorian Season 3

Set to release its newest season on March 1st, the anticipated Disney+ original is back for another season after two years of it being off the air. This season will have eight, 60-minute episodes, and guess what? Season 4 is already written, as Jon Favreau has confirmed. While you’re watching this new season in just a little less than two weeks, have your mind ready for the next season!

This season we will see the return of Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin and also a fan favorite, Baby Yoda. We will also be seeing Katee Sackhoff as Bo-Katan Kryze and Giancarlo Esposito who plays Moff Gideon will be playing a bigger part this season.

This season we will continue to follow the Mandalorian through their journey in the Star Wars galaxy. Season 2 seemed like a great finale for the show, and there are a lot of wonders about where this season will go. In The Book of Boba Fett, the final episodes show a whole new storyline for this season as Din and Grogu are reunited. The official trailer was released on January 16th on the Disney+ YouTube Channel.

The Muppets Mayhem

This comedy series will star a few of your favorite Muppets as well as Lilly Singh. It follows The Electric Mayhem Band and they will be heading on a musical journey to finally record their first studio album. Singh’s character, Nora, will play a junior A&R executive who is in charge of getting the gang back together and the band faces the modern-day music business together.

The Muppets are voiced by Bill Barretta, Eric Jacobson, Matt Vogel, David Rudman, Dave Goelz, and Peter Linz. The show is developed and written by Adam F. Goldberg, the creator of The Goldbergs, Barreta, and Jeff Yorkes. The show is set to start streaming in early May on Disney+.

Fans are anxiously awaiting for the trailer to drop, they took to Twitter to speak out.

American Born Chinese

The really great thing about this new series is that it is based on the graphic novel by Gene Luen Yang American Born Chinese. It is a live-action series that tells the story of an average teenager, Jian Wang, who is learning how to juggle his school, social, and home life. When one day he meets a foreign student on the first day of school and suddenly Jin is caught up in a battle with Chinese Mythical Gods.

The cast includes Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, Stephanie Hsu, and James Wong, people are calling it  “a mini Everything Everywhere All at Once reunion.” According to Deadline, the series will be shown in March at the South by Southwest Film Festival. The show is set to release sometime this spring, with no official date just yet, but eventually will release to the rest of the world.

Disney+ has released a lot of content relating to the show, whether it be features of interviews with cast members or even teasers. On February 10th, they released Locker Reveal | American Born Chinese | Disney+. You can view more on their Youtube channel.

Doctor Who

On October 25th, 2022, Disney Plus posted via Instagram “It’s almost time for #DoctorWho’s next regeneration! Coming in 2023 to #DisneyPlus.” The show comes in collaboration with BBC. Disney+ will stream new episodes in 2023 and BBC will continue to be the home for the TV show in Ireland and the UK.

So far, the details about the cast include Ncuti Gatwa, who will star as the 15th Doctor as the successor to David Tennant’s second time on the show. Along with this return, Catherine Tate will be returning as The Doctor’s companion, Donna Noble. Tennant will return as the lead role for a few special episodes. Gatwa is set to take over after Tennant’s three-episode run starting in 2023.

Fans have had mixed emotions about the return of the show with some loving Disney for making a BBC show streamable worldwide, but a lot of other fans of the show are nervous about what will happen to Dr. Who now that Disney+ has the rights.
