Our Favorite Easter Eggs From ‘WandaVision’!

WandaVision, Marvel’s new show starring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany, features many easter eggs and references to comic books and older MCU movies. We’re going to take you through some of our favorites from the first two episodes!

There’s no debating the buzz about Marvel’s news show, WandaVision! The first two episodes aired on Disney+ on January 15th! Set after Avengers: Endgame, WandaVision follows Wanda Maximoff and Vision, played by Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany, as they live an idealized suburban life inspired by popular American sitcoms of the past.

As many eagle-eyed fans have noticed, there are plenty of easter eggs packed into each episode. Here are our top 6 easter eggs from the first two episodes!

Spoilers for the MCU below!

Episode 1

Sokovian Hand Greeting

When Wanda mistakenly greets Vision’s boss, she covers his eyes from behind. Vision passes it off by saying it’s a Sokovian greeting. This is the first direct reference to the MCU in the show, as Sokovia is Wanda’s birthplace. Some fans may also realize that this hand positioning is also very similar to Wanda’s first interaction with Tony Stark where she hypnotized him.

Maison Du Mepris

The wine seen in this episode is Maison Du Mepris, which translates to House of Contempt. This is a callback to House of Misery, or House of M, a popular comic book storyline from 2005 that is centered around Wanda’s grief and psychological state after her powers reach their full potential. There seem to be similar themes of family and reality in House of M and WandaVision, making fans wonder what’s next for the show.

The Stark ToastMate 2000

This episode features a fictional commercial about a toaster created by Stark Enterprises. This easter egg refers to not only Tony Stark, whose missiles impacted Wanda’s life as a child, but also to Vision. In the comics, Vision is often referred to as a toaster in order to demean and belittle him. As he was created from Tony Stark’s AI, JARVIS, he is, essentially, a Stark toaster.

Episode 2

S.W.O.R.D

Throughout the episode, a logo of a sword continues to pop up in odd places. This refers to the organization S.W.O.R.D., which stands for Sentient World Observation and Response Department, and it is considered the space counterpart for S.H.I.E.L.D. However, in the MCU it seems to stand for Sentient Weapon Observation Response Division. Either way, we’re interested to see their involvement with Wanda and Vision.

Strucker’s Watch

Just like Episode 1, Episode 2 also features a fictional commercial. This one highlights the Strucker watch. Fans will remember that Baron Wolfgang von Strucker is the man who experimented on Wanda and her brother while they were working with Hydra. If you look closely, you can see the Hydra logo on the watch.

Grim Reapers Head

Another easter egg lies in the animated intro for episode 2. While Vision is getting ready for work, we can see the head of the character Grim Reaper beneath the floor. In the comics, Grim Reaper is a cybernetically-enhanced, magic-based mutant who fights the Avengers. He is considered to be Vision’s “brother,” explaining his presence in the intro.

Overall, we’re excited to see more easter eggs in the upcoming episodes of WandaVision!
