Netflix drops the first teaser for The Diplomat season 3, revealing new drama, shifting power, and Bradley Whitford’s debut alongside Keri Russell.
Netflix has officially released the first teaser for the anticipated third season of The Diplomat, offering fans a thrilling glimpse into the fallout from last season’s jaw-dropping finale. The critically acclaimed political drama returns in Fall 2025, promising even more twists, turmoil, and high-stakes diplomacy.
Season 3 picks up immediately after the explosive events of Season 2, which left viewers stunned. Ambassador Kate Wyler (played by Keri Russell) just accused Vice President Grace Penn (Allison Janney) of orchestrating a terrorist plot—and admitted she’s eyeing the VP’s job. But with the President now dead, Kate’s husband Hal (Rufus Sewell) may have played an unintended role in his demise. Now, Grace is the President of the United States, and Kate finds herself stepping into a position she never wanted, at a time when the stakes couldn’t be higher.
The teaser also offers the first look at Bradley Whitford in action, reuniting with Allison Janney and joining the powerhouse ensemble that already includes David Gyasi, Ali Ahn, Rory Kinnear, and Ato Essandoh. Whitford plays First Gentleman Todd Penn, whose connection with Kate quickly becomes as unnerving as it is compelling.
Speaking to TUDUM.com, Whitford shared his excitement about joining the cast:
“I was thrilled when I heard that Debora was interested in me doing something. I had no idea what it was. I love the show. I was jealous of the writing on this show. I love Keri. I love Rufus. And I hear Allison Janney is good at acting too. It’s an amazing cast.”
Created by Debora Cahn, The Diplomat has earned widespread critical acclaim, garnering Golden Globe, Critics Choice, WGA, SAG, and DGA nominations. Season 3 will consist of eight one-hour episodes, produced by Netflix with executive producers Janice Williams, Keri Russell, Alex Graves, Peter Noah, and Eli Attie.
