Robin Wright and Olivia Cooke star in Prime Video’s psychological thriller The Girlfriend, premiering September 10 with all six episodes.
Prime Video has unveiled a chilling first look at its newest psychological thriller, The Girlfriend, along with a tense teaser trailer and a confirmed release date. The six-part limited series, starring Robin Wright and Olivia Cooke, will premiere September 10 exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories around the world.
Adapted from Michelle Frances’ best-selling novel, The Girlfriend follows Laura (Wright), a successful woman whose seemingly perfect life is upended when her beloved son Daniel brings home a mysterious new girlfriend. That woman is Cherry (Cooke), whose arrival sets off a nerve-racking battle of suspicion, secrets, and psychological warfare.
Laura becomes increasingly convinced that Cherry has a hidden agenda—but is Cherry really a manipulative social climber, or is Laura projecting her own paranoia? The show explores the fine line between protection and control, and how much of the truth depends on perspective.
Alongside Wright and Cooke, the cast includes Laurie Davidson as Daniel, Waleed Zuaiter as Howard, Tayna Moodie as Isabella, Shalom Brune-Franklin as Brigitte, Karen Henthorn as Tracey, Anna Chancellor as Lilith, Leo Suter as Nicholas, and Francesca Corney as Millie.
The series is produced by Imaginarium Productions and Amazon MGM Studios, with Jonathan Cavendish and Caroline Norris serving as producers. Executive producers include Robin Wright herself, alongside Will Tennant, Phil Robertson, John Zois, Dave Clarke, Gabbie Asher, and author Michelle Frances.
The Girlfriend was adapted for television by Naomi Sheldon and Gabbie Asher, with episodes written by Sheldon, Asher, Polly Cavendish, Helen Kingston, Marek Horn, Ava Wong Davies, Isis Davis, Smita Bhide, and Matt Evans.
With its unsettling premise, powerhouse cast, and dark emotional twists, The Girlfriend is shaping up to be one of fall’s most addictive new dramas.
