Netflix drops the trailer for Last Samurai Standing, the epic Meiji-era survival series where 292 warriors battle for survival and a massive prize.
Netflix has released the official trailer for its upcoming Japanese action drama Last Samurai Standing, premiering exclusively on the streamer on November 13, 2025.
Set in the late 19th century during the Meiji period, the series drops viewers into a deadly life-or-death contest. At nightfall, 292 warriors converge at Kyoto’s Tenryuji Temple, each competing for a massive cash prize. The rules are as simple as they are brutal: every fighter wears a single wooden tag, and to advance, they must steal the tags of their rivals and race to Tokyo. As soon as the signal is given, the temple explodes into chaos, igniting a ferocious battle where only one warrior can emerge victorious.
At the center of the story is Shujiro Saga, played by Junichi Okada, who also serves as producer and action planner for the project. Okada teams with director Michihito Fujii to deliver the kind of large-scale action rarely seen on Japanese television. The production went all in on scope and authenticity, staging the melee at Tenryuji Temple across multiple days with over 1,000 cast and crew.
The action blends cutting-edge CG with practical effects to create visceral, ground-level combat that promises to be both realistic and visually stunning.
The creative team behind the series includes directors Michihito Fujii, Kento Yamaguchi, and Toru Yamamoto. The story is adapted from the Ikusagami novels by Shogo Imamura, published by Kodansha Bunko. Kosuke Oshida produces with Shinichi Takahashi serving as executive producer.
Alongside Okada, the ensemble cast features Yumia Fujisaki, Kaya Kiyohara, Masahiro Higashide, Shota Sometani, Taichi Saotome, Yuya Endo, Taiiku Okazaki, Kairi Jo, Yasushi Fuchikami, Takaaki Enoki, Yoshi Sakou, Satoru Matsuo, Toshihiro Yashiba, Daisuke Kuroda, Mitsuo Yoshihara, Wataru Ichinose, Takashi Sasano, Yuya Matsuura, Ryudo Uzaki, Arata Iura, Tetsushi Tanaka, Ayumu Nakajima, Takayuki Yamada, Riho Yoshioka, Kazunari Ninomiya, Hiroshi Tamaki, Hideaki Ito, and Gaku Hamada.
Produced by Office Shirous, Last Samurai Standing represents one of the most ambitious Japanese series to date, fusing historical drama with survival-game tension and cinematic-scale action.
The countdown begins as the warriors take their place at Tenryuji Temple. When the dust settles, only one will be left standing.
Last Samurai Standing premieres worldwide on Netflix, November 13, 2025.
