House of the Dragon season 3 has confirmed 22 returning stars while adding 7 new cast members, and seeing 4 actors not returning for the latest season.
The world of Westeros is getting ready for its next fiery chapter as House of the Dragon season 3 officially kicks off filming in the United Kingdom. The Game of Thrones prequel will return with eight episodes, marking the penultimate installment in the epic Dance of Dragons storyline. Production will continue into Fall 2025, with the new season slated to premiere in 2026.
According to a report from Just Jared, the latest season is bringing back 22 familiar faces while also expanding the ensemble with seven new cast members. Among the newcomers are previously announced additions James Norton, Tommy Flanagan, and Dan Fogler. Joining them are fresh arrivals Tom Cullen, Annie Shapero, Barry Sloane, and Joplin Sibtain. These actors will step into Westeros for the first time, adding even more intrigue to the political and personal battles ahead.
However, season 3 will also see notable departures. Following the dramatic events of season 2 — which included the death of one major character — four series regulars will not be returning. Eve Best, who portrayed Princess Rhaenys Targaryen, will be absent, alongside Simon Russell Beale (Ser Simon Strong), Ella Torchia (Kat), and Tom Taylor (Lord Cregan Stark).
While HBO has yet to release plot details, the shifting cast signals big changes ahead. With production already underway and the penultimate season poised to set up the show’s climactic conclusion, House of the Dragon fans can expect fresh alliances, shocking betrayals, and an even deeper descent into the bloody Targaryen civil war.
