Netflix’s Untamed dives into deadly mysteries in Yosemite as Eric Bana stars as a park agent confronting violence, secrets, and his past.
Netflix is heading deep into the wilderness this summer with Untamed, a gripping six-part mystery thriller set in the breathtaking yet dangerous expanse of Yosemite National Park. Premiering Thursday, July 17, the new limited series comes from The Revenant and American Primeval writer Mark L. Smith, who serves as co-showrunner alongside Elle Smith.
At the center of Untamed is Eric Bana, who stars as Kyle Turner, a special agent with the National Park Service’s elite Investigative Services Branch (ISB). Turner is charged with the daunting task of enforcing human law in nature’s untamed domain. But when a brutal death occurs within the park, the investigation sends him spiraling into not just the shadows of Yosemite—but the darkest corners of his own past.
Joining Eric Bana is an impressive cast, including Sam Neill as Paul Souter, Yosemite’s veteran chief ranger who’s spent half his life keeping order in the park. A respected leader and Turner’s trusted friend, Souter expertly navigates both the wild terrain and the complex bureaucracy behind it.
Lily Santiago plays Naya Vasquez, a sharp and determined former L.A. cop who’s just joined Yosemite’s ranger force. New to the park and raising her 4-year-old son Gael, Vasquez brings big-city experience and an unyielding instinct for justice—making her an invaluable asset in the unfolding murder case.
Rosemary DeWitt appears as Jill Bodwin, Turner’s ex-wife and a former teacher and park counselor. Despite their divorce and her remarriage, Jill remains connected to Turner, their bond rooted in a past neither of them can escape.
Wilson Bethel rounds out the ensemble as Shane Maguire, a former army ranger turned Wildlife Management Officer who prefers isolation over society. Living alone in the wilderness, Maguire thrives by following his own rules—until the case threatens to pull him back into a world he left behind.
Created and executive produced by Mark L. Smith and Elle Smith, Untamed also counts Eric Bana, John Wells, Erin Jontow, Todd Black, Tony Shaw, Steve Lee Jones, and Cliff Roberts among its producers.
