Apple TV is bringing back the darkly witty duo of Zoë Boehm and Sarah Trafford for a second season of Down Cemetery Road. The renewal was announced shortly after the explosive first-season finale, which left fans eagerly anticipating what’s next for Emma Thompson and Ruth Wilson’s characters.

“I’m so thrilled that Down Cemetery Road has been enjoyed enough to warrant a second season,” said star and executive producer Emma Thompson. “The thought of working with the team again, with wonderful Morwenna Banks in the writer’s seat and the indomitable Ruth Wilson, who is the best and most brilliant co-star any aging Dame could desire, is frankly far more than I feel I deserve.”

Thompson, who plays Zoë Boehm, added about reprising her role, “Zoë Boehm is a punkishly delicious avatar and I can’t wait to pull on her knock-off Doc Martens again. Thanks to everyone who watched! We are go for the next one, and it’s all down to you.”

Season two promises to reunite Zoë and Sarah in another twisted mystery. After a woman falls in front of a train, Zoë is called in to investigate, but the case quickly escalates into the dangerous and glamorous world of black market antiquities. Their investigation takes a deadly turn when they cross paths with a brutal serial killer determined to cover up his crimes.

Apple TV’s creative director, Europe, Jay Hunt, commented on the series’ global success: “Audiences around the world fell in love with Down Cemetery Road and I am glad the unlikely duo of Zoë and Sarah will be back with their unique form of acerbic wit.”

Produced by 60Forty Films, the show is written by Morwenna Banks, known for Funny Woman, who also serves as executive producer alongside Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, Tom Nash, Emma Thompson, and author Mick Herron, the creator of the Slow Horses series. Season two will be led by director Börkur Sigthorsson, known for Insomnia.
