Daniel Dae Kim Stars In Prime Video’s Butterfly

Prime Video drops trailer and art for Butterfly, a spy thriller starring and executive produced by Daniel Dae Kim, premiering August 13.

Prime Video has officially released the trailer and key art for its high-stakes new spy thriller Butterfly, starring and executive produced by Daniel Dae Kim. The six-episode series, based on the BOOM! Studios graphic novel created by Arash Amel, premieres August 13 exclusively on Prime Video in over 240 countries and territories.

Set against a backdrop of international espionage and personal betrayal, Butterfly follows David Jung (Kim), a former U.S. intelligence operative living off-grid in South Korea. But his attempt at a quiet life is shattered when the fallout from a devastating decision in his past resurfaces—sending deadly consequences his way. He’s soon hunted by Rebecca (played by Reina Hardesty), a ruthless young agent from the shadowy spy network known as Caddis.

The series is described as a “character-driven spy thriller” that delves into intense emotional themes and family fractures set within the dangerous world of global intelligence. Rounding out the core cast are Piper Perabo, Louis Landau, and recurring players including Kim Ji-hoon, Park Hae-soo, Kim Tae-hee, Charles Parnell, Sean Dulake, and Nayoon Kim, with guest appearances by Sung Dong-il and Lee Il-hwa.

Butterfly comes from showrunner and co-creator Ken Woodruff (The Mentalist, Gotham) and acclaimed novelist Steph Cha. The two serve as executive producers alongside Kim and John Cheng for 3AD, Stephen Christy and Ross Richie for BOOM! Studios, and Arash Amel for The Amel Company. Adam Yoelin is co-executive producer for BOOM! Studios, and 3AD developed the series under its first-look deal with Amazon MGM Studios. The first two episodes were directed by Kitao Sakurai.

With its international setting, deep emotional stakes, and pulse-pounding suspense, Butterfly is shaping up to be a must-watch for thriller fans this summer.

All episodes of Butterfly premiere August 13, only on Prime Video.
