Netflix greenlights high-octane Assassin’s Creed live-action series with Emmy nominees at the helm and Ubisoft’s full support behind the scenes.
Netflix is officially diving into the world of Assassin’s Creed. The streaming giant has greenlit a live-action adaptation of the massively successful video game franchise, bringing Ubisoft’s globally acclaimed property to life in a bold new way.
Nearly five years after announcing a development partnership with Ubisoft in 2020, Netflix’s first Assassin’s Creed series is finally moving forward. Emmy nominees Roberto Patino (DMZ, Westworld, Sons of Anarchy) and David Wiener (Halo, Homecoming, The Killing) will serve as creators, showrunners, and executive producers.
Described as a “high-octane thriller,” the series will center around the secret war between two shadowy factions—one manipulating mankind’s fate through control, and the other defending free will. This battle unfolds across critical moments in history, as characters fight for the future of humanity.
“We’ve been fans of Assassin’s Creed since its release in 2007,” Wiener and Patino shared in a joint statement. “Every day we work on this show, we come away excited and humbled by the possibilities it opens to us. Beneath the spectacle and thrills is the most essential kind of human story—about identity, purpose, faith, power, and connection across time.”
Netflix’s Peter Friedlander, VP of Scripted Series, praised the upcoming adaptation as a fulfillment of the streamer’s ambitious partnership with Ubisoft. “After years of dedicated collaboration, it’s inspiring to see just how far that vision has come,” he said. “This epic adventure both honors the legacy of the franchise and invites newcomers into the Brotherhood.”
Margaret Boykin, executive producer and head of content at Ubisoft Film & Television, added, “We are thrilled to work alongside Roberto, David, and our Netflix partners to bring this beloved franchise to series. Fans can expect a story that speaks to the heart of what they love about Assassin’s Creed—while welcoming new viewers into its unforgettable world.”
Additional executive producers include Gerard Guillemot, Austin Dill, and Matt O’Toole for Ubisoft Film & Television.
With more than 230 million units sold, Assassin’s Creed remains one of the best-selling video game franchises of all time, renowned for its parkour-style action, rich storytelling, and historical settings. The series now joins Netflix’s growing list of gaming adaptations, alongside titles like Castlevania, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and the upcoming Splinter Cell: Deathwatch.
Following in the Emmy-winning footsteps of Arcane, Netflix’s Assassin’s Creed aims to deliver an immersive viewing experience that captures the heart of the franchise while charting thrilling new territory.
