Alex Honnold to Free Solo Taipei 101 in Netflix Live Event

Alex Honnold will attempt to free solo climb Taipei 101, the 11th tallest building in the world, in Netflix’s live special Skyscraper Live premiering in early 2026.

Free solo climbing icon Alex Honnold is taking his fearless skills to new heights in Netflix’s upcoming live event Skyscraper Live. The two-hour special, set to premiere in early 2026, will see Honnold attempt to become the first person ever to free solo climb Taipei 101, one of the tallest skyscrapers on the planet.

Standing at 1,667 feet tall with 101 floors, Taipei 101 holds the title as the tallest building in Taiwan and the 11th tallest in the world. Honnold, celebrated as one of the greatest free solo climbers of all time, will take on the monumental challenge without ropes or harnesses, performing the daring ascent live for viewers around the globe.

The special is produced by Plimsoll Productions Limited, part of ITV Studios, with Joe DeMaio directing. Showrunner and executive producer Al Berman leads the project alongside executive producers Alex Honnold, Grant Mansfield, James Smith, Alan Eyres, and Jonathan Retseck.

Skyscraper Live builds on Netflix’s growing slate of ambitious live programming.
