Naomi was a special guest on Women’s Wrestling Weekly this past Wednesday with hosts TK Trinidad and Emily Mae where she discussed how difficult it was to leave WWE, what she dealt with during and after her leave of absence and how it felt to return for the Royal Rumble.

Last year, Naomi took some time off to be with her family after the death of her cousin, a person she was super close with, who passed during childbirth. This shocking event sent shockwaves through her family as they all grappled with the loss.

“I finally just had to get myself together mentally, emotionally, physically, she said, “I was just breaking down,” Naomi revealed. “So, I asked for that time off to bury my cousin and to go back home and be there with my family and her kids that are left here.”

Naomi also revealed that during this time she struggled with her own health and wellbeing. She struggled to finish matches, had extreme fatigue and was concerned that she didn’t know what was wrong.

“I always thought, I’m like fine, I’m healthy, I’m eating good, you know, it was that and I found out I had a stomach ulcer, I was completely Vitamin D deficient,” she shared.

In January 2020, she returned to WWE’s ring for one of the largest events of the year, the Royal Rumble as it kickstarts the road to Wrestlemania.

Naomi reacted to returning to the ring, “Oh man, it was such a relief because I am my own worst critic and I get in my head a lot because I am so passionate, this is my art”, she shared, “I was scared, the worst thing is being gone that long and coming back to no one caring, or to no reaction.I just didn’t know what to expect.”

One of the female superstars behind the Women’s Revolution, she’s been a part of the wrestling industry for over 10 years, Naomi is currently a part of WWE’s Smackdown brand roster and is a two-time champion. She’s passionate about creating music, modeling, as well as acting. Naomi was a former dancer for the NBA Orlando Magic, was featured in Flo Rida’s hip hop videos, and has starred on the USA Network show, Total Divas for various seasons since 2014.

Naomi has her eyes set on more than just Smackdown, she shared that she’s had an eye on WWE’s developmental brand NXT for over a year now.

“I asked about a year ago to go down to NXT to work,” she revealed, “I just, I think NXT is awesome, I love NXT, she said. “And at the time, I wasn’t really being used as much on the main roster so I was like, ‘Dang, can I go down there?’ And see what I can get into and what could happen…”

In recent months, other WWE Superstars from the RAW and Smackdown brand have been making the move to NXT. Rising stars like Bianca BelAir are on Naomi’s list to craft storylines with, have a match against or create a tag-team together. Fans will have to watch closely if that dream becomes a reality!

You can watch Naomi’s rivalry unfold against Carmella and other WWE Superstars on Smackdown on Friday nights on FOX as the WWE stars battle it out on the road to Wrestlemania.
