Professional Wrestler Taynara Conti was a special guest on AfterBuzz TV’s Women’s Wrestling Weekly this week with hosts TK Trinidad and Emily Mae. She shared what it’s like transitioning from black belt judo training to wrestling, who helped her when she was let go from WWE, and what she’s looking forward to next.

Always incredibly athletic but not necessarily familiar with wrestling, this black belt judoka was signed to WWE NXT in 2016 and has been training ever since. Taynara was let go in the recent lay-offs throughout the company. She reflected on her time at NXT, Taynara shared who helped her get through this difficult time.

She called her best friend Nikki Cross for advice and Chelsea Green reached out to her as well. Chelsea Green encouraged her to set up a merchandise website to help support herself during this time. “I never did something like that before so I had no clue.” Chelsea helped her on how to respond to other promotions and other various business items to help get Taynara back on her feet. “So, thank you because she has been… amazing with me,” Taynara shared about Chelsea Green.

Many wrestlers at the WWE Performance Center come from all athletic backgrounds like gymnastics and martial arts. One of the most well-known athletes that headed to WWE is Ronda Rousey. As Taynara reflected on her time in the Brazilian jiu-jitsu and judo world, she shared how she once met Ronda in Brazil and eventually they both were training together and signed by the same company, “She’s amazing and such an inspiration,” she revealed.

Other wrestlers she worked with and learned from at WWE included Dakota Kai and Candice LeRae. “Two people that I learned a lot from and I felt so comfortable [with]… was Dakota Kai and Candice LeRae. Every time I went into the ring with them, I was…I feel like I belong here. They help you, they teach you…They are amazing… and I feel like they’re open to listening,” she shared, “I felt free to ask, and to give my ideas, and they were able to help me… so I learned a lot from them.”

Taynara hopes to travel the world including Japan and wrestle there. We wish her the best and know that she will find her next adventure. In the meantime, support Taynara by heading to her ProWrestling Tees page and get some really cool merchandise.
