ABTV Loves the Fresh Prince of Bel Air

Can you believe it’s been 30 years since the first season of “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air? Will Smith decided the best way to celebrate during social distancing would be with a friendly zoom call.

Many celebrities felt emotional while watching the reunion because it brought back many memories for them. Actor Harry Shum Jr said the show holds a special place in his heart because it was a sitcom he loved to watch weekly while he adjusted to American culture.

In the reunion, Will Smith revealed it was his first time watching clips of James Avery since his passing. While watching the clips, the cast became very emotional and so did Shum Jr.

“This show means a lot to me and I will forever be grateful for James Avery and the humility, humor, and versatility he brought to Philip Banks. May he Rest In Peace,” he wrote.

The show was iconic for many reasons like its comedy, Hilary’s fashion choices, Uncle Phil throwing Jazz out the front door, and most importantly the life lessons.

“My dad taught me valuable lessons growing up but I also learned a lot from Uncle Phil. I distinctly remember the episode where Will gets stopped by a cop and wrongfully thrown in jail. Uncle Phil’s words were so powerful in that episode and I got my first lesson about the inequalities and hardships that African Americans face in the land of the free.” he added.

‘Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ is a show that will continue to be the hearts and homes of many households throughout the world. The show has taught many people the importance of love and family, which is something that is much needed during the times of the coronavirus pandemic.
