ABTV Love Bryant Family Weekly

January 26th changed us all. After the tragic event that took the lives of Kobe Bryant and his lovely daughter Gianna, it was hard for supporters across the globe to heal and move forward. While sometimes it is tough to realize, low moments can present opportunities for us to come together and create new beginnings. Last week, we celebrated what would have been Kobe’s 42nd birthday, the first Kobe Day, and the launch of a new foundation in his honor.

To start off Kobe’s birthday, Vanessa Bryant pinned a sweet letter to her husband. She mentioned his thoughtfulness and talked about some of the things she was able to learn from the great Mamba.

“Thank you for growing up with me and teaching me how to be strong,” she said. “How to try to see the best in people but cutout the bs. Your thoughtful gestures and the amazing way you made us all feel is extremely missed. I picture your smile and wide big welcoming hugs daily. God I miss you both so much. Our lives feel so empty without you and Gigi.”

As she remembered Kobe, she went on to reveal some of her raw and true emotions about the passing of her loved ones. “I’m mad I didn’t go first. I always wanted to go first so that I selfishly didn’t have to feel this heartache. You were supposed to miss me. Gigi was supposed to be here with her sisters. It should’ve been me.” While she pushes through every day, she said she finds her true strength from her daughters whose resilience helps keep a smile on her face. With the love and joy that is poured into her, she continues to share it with others in her adorable Instagram posts featuring her family.

Though her words carried tremendous weight while displaying grace and elegance, her appreciation didn’t stop there. To honor Kobe and Gianna, she launched the Mamba and Mambacita Sports Foundation. The nonprofit organization aims to support women in sports and underserved athletes through significant funding in efforts to create more opportunities. She identifies with these groups after observing her loved ones’ journey through basketball.

The love overflowed from close friends and fans as the world celebrated his birthday and Kobe Bryant Day. Nike, LA Dodgers, LA Lakers, and many more showed how much the Mamba meant to them. Some stars including Dwyane Wade, Lisa Leslie, Jewell Lloyd, and more came together to share their thoughts about the Hall of Fame. Though they shared personal and unique stories, they all touched on how personal and genuine he was when no one was watching. More of this idea was emphasized when Vanessa and LeBron James posted videos of Kobe’s sweet energy. Vanessa’s post showed a video of Kobe holding her hand tight as they walked through a Disney theme park. Without words, you could feel the love they shared as the two never let go as the crowd around them grew bigger. James’ post was another video that showed him leading a cafeteria full of fellow athletes and people in singing happy birthday to Kobe. His big smile stretched across his face with a young Gianna in his arms.

As people highlighted the great achievements of the birthday boy, they didn’t fail to mention Gianna in their comments. Close friends affirmed that while many waited for Kobe and Vanessa to have a boy to continue his legacy, their daughter Gianna was already picking up the torch her father left.

Though there were so many beautiful tributes from the past week, fans were extremely disappointed when Kobe was left out of the VMAs “In Memoriam” Tribute this past weekend. MTV has yet to issue a statement explaining why but Afterbuzz TV will continue to keep readers updated.
