30 Rock writer, Tina Fey is working to remove episodes of her show that include black face. But she isn’t just stopping with simply removing the episodes from streaming platforms she wants them off reruns as well.

This comes in light of the current movement calling out inappropriate behavior of celebrities and comedians, and especially at the humor of the black community.

In a note to Variety, Fey talks about how she is striving for a better tomorrow. Saying,

“As we strive to do the work and do better in regards to race in America, we believe that these episodes featuring actors in race-changing makeup are best taken out of circulation.”

The 30 rock writer also talks about how important it is to simply look beyond “intent.” She says,

“I understand now that ‘intent’ is not a free pass for white people to use these images. I apologize for pain they have caused.”

The biggest thing Fey wants for the future, is to not let the youth discover these episodes and feel pain like so many have already before. And she wants to thank NBC for being on board with the decision. Saying,

“Going forward, no comedy-loving kid needs to stumble on these tropes and be stung by their ugliness. I thank NBC Universal for honoring this request.”

These are the kind of actions we want to see from our favorite celebrities. Calling when they have made mistakes, learn from them, and correct them.

This is what activism and being an ally looks like. Learning from your mistakes, removing them and calling out when others make a mistake, so they have a chance to learn and grow from it. Four for you Tina Fey. You go Tina Fey… (I hope you all got that Mean Girls reference….)
