On Wednesday afternoon, Thomas Lane was released on bail from the Hennepin County Jail for the murder of George Floyd.

Lane only had police academy training and four days on the force under his belt when Floyd was killed. His attorney stands strong on his client keeping his hands clean for the murder of Floyd. His attorney, Early Gray, said Lane was obeying Chauvin because he had 19 years of experience on the force.

“They’re required to call him ‘Sir,’” Mr. Gray told the court. “He has 20 years’ experience. What is my client supposed to do but to follow what the training officer said? Is that aiding and abetting a crime?” Earl Gray said in court.

Lane posted bail for $750,000 with charges of aiding and abetting second-degree murder. Chauvin is still facing a bail of $1.2 million as of Monday, and Keung and Tao are still on $750,000 bail and facing charges.

Thomas Lane and J. Alexander Keung are caught on video holding Floyd’s legs to the ground, while Derek Chauvin dug his knee into George Floyd’s neck for eight minutes and 46 seconds.

According to the New York Times, in court, Keung’s attorney, Tom Plunkett, said he and Lane tried to verbally stop Chauvin from killing Floyd.

“At multiple times, Mr. Kueng and Mr. Lane directed their attention to that 19-year veteran and said, ‘You shouldn’t do this,” Plunkett said.

Chauvin is still facing charges of second-degree murder and his next court date is June 29th.
