AfterBuzz TV’s Spotlight On: Hannah Zeile

Actress, Singer and Songwriter Hannah Zeile joined us for our Spotlight On series on Wednesday to talk about her experience starring in the hit NBC series, This is Us and her upcoming debut single Ode to My Anxiety, which drops on Friday, April 17 at midnight local time.

We all know Hannah for her stellar performance as teenage Kate in This is Us. She found out she booked the role in an Uber ride shortly after reading with creator Dan Fogelman.

“I wish I could meet that Uber driver again, because I had the most memorable experience of my life in the backseat of his car,” shared Hannah. “I’m calling my family crying and he was driving then when it was all done he just looked in the mirror and said, ‘I’m gonna look out for you.’”

Hannah didn’t join the show alone, she had Logan Shroyer and Niles Fitch, completing the teenage Big 3, right by her side.

“We have so much fun when the three of us get to work together,” she explained. “We have a really strong bond and friendship off camera and I feel like that shows on screen.”

Something that also shows on and off camera for Hannah and her character, is their mutual deep love for music. She is now releasing her first ever single, Ode to My Anxiety. She chose to make her debut by covering a very personal yet universal subject.

“I just know when I’ve been in times of panic it’s been helpful to look at people that are honest and open about it,” Hannah shared. “So, I thought instead of carrying shame about it, and letting it take control of me, I’m going to take the power back and I’m going to talk about what it feels like.”

We all have go-to artists or songs that we play when we need some healing. It’s no surprise that Hannah turns to Ariana Grande.

“I just posted a cover of Breathin’ by Ariana Grande,”Hannah told us. “That song has been really helpful with anxiety for me.”

In our current climate, a lot of people are feeling uncertain of the future. She gave us some heartfelt advice for anyone chasing their dreams.

“Always give 100% of your effort,” she said. “You need to be in it for the right reasons,” continued Hannah. “I have to know that I love it, I’m passionate about it and I’m proud of it. I try not to let other people’s opinions sway me.”
