ABTV Quarantine With The Stars : Curtiss Cook

Curtiss Cook has made the jump from the Broadway stage to the primetime screen and he’s been doing it without missing a beat. As he gears up for roles in season 3 of Showtime’s The Chi and the upcoming remake of West Side Story, Curtiss joined me for a hilarious chat to talk all about what he’s up to in quarantine and how Broadway is still part of his life today.

On the topic of how he’s keeping busy at home, Curtiss shared how he’s extremely fortunate to be home with his family and to be able to keep his creative juices flowing. In addition to spending time with his wife, kids, and even his mother-in-law, Curtiss is also extremely active on Instagram and is even keeping his acting chops intact through a hilarious sketch comedy series called Chris and Topher with his friend Marcuis Harris.

As we discussed the new season of The Chi, Curtiss shared that he’s excited to dive deeper into the background of his character Douda and how we’ll get to know his wife Roselyn this season, who will be played by Atlanta Housewife Kandi Burruss. However, Curtiss shared that unfortunately his working relationship with Kandi wasn’t the best.

“Kandi came in, she told me not to talk to her, she said don’t touch me. If you look at me wrong, I will get my people and take you down. No, no, no, no, I’m joking. I’m joking. Kandi Burruss was AMAZING. I’m not really a big housewives fan so I wasn’t really familiar, but I knew all of her incredible music, so I was a little intimidated when she came in. But, she came in about her work…and the working relationship was really, really cool.”

Another really, really cool project that Curtiss is working on is the upcoming film remake of West Side Story. Since this project is extremely tight under wraps, Curtiss couldn’t share too much about the film, but he did share how happy he was to be a part of it.

“I was able to work with Arthur Laurents, the writer of the Broadway play of West Side Story, and so when this came around it was just like a full circle for me. Tony Kushner and Steven Spielberg asked me to join this project and when I tell you that the music, the cinematography, and the vision of what these folks have for this endeavor of West Side Story, it’s an homage to the original…but it just expands it. It’s mind-blowing and it’s beautiful.”

My mind was also blown and I could not stop laughing when Curtiss joked that once quarantine is over, you’ll see him running butt-naked through the streets!

Since West Side Story made big waves on the streets of Broadway, I wanted to know what Curtiss missed about his time on Broadway as he had roles in The Lion King, and Miss Saigon in NYC. Curtiss shared how he missed the live audience, but definitely does not miss the intense schedule of eight shows a week.

If you miss seeing Curtiss on your screens, you won’t have to wait much longer as Showtime has pushed up the premiere date of The Chi to June 21st. Also, you won’t want to miss Curtiss’s hilarious sketch show on his Instagram @CurtissCook and be sure to follow him to keep up with his upcoming projects and what he’s doing during quarantine.

If you love this article, share it with a friend! And if you love Curtiss and The Chi, be sure to catch Curtiss’ full interview for AfterBuzz TV’s Quarantine With The Stars, and continue to check back with for all the latest in entertainment news and gossip.
