2020 will be a year that no one will forget and Covid will forever be a word that we never want to hear again. However, not everything in 2020 was bad. Our favorite artist Taylor Swift spoiled us “Swifties” by dropping not only one but two  surprise albums this year.

As soon as the pandemic started the Folklore singer didn’t sit back and take time off. Instead she started creating new music. After her City of Lover concert aired May 17th on ABC she started dropping us hints that a new album was in the works.

Whenever Taylor is getting ready to launch a new album she will start posting photos on her IG that will give us fans clues to what her next album will be about.

On July 23rd Swift posted nine black and white photos of herself in a forest revealing that she will be dropping her 8th studio album and introducing us to Folklore

Like all of us the “Exile” singer made plans this year that didn’t end up happening but instead of being upset she took the opportunity to release more music.

“Most of the things I had planned this summer didn’t end up happening, but there is something I hadn’t planned on that DID happen. And that thing is my 8th studio album, folklore. Surprise.”

What a surprise! Many fans felt like Christmas came early when Folklore was released on July 24th and Swift immediately became the number one trend on Twitter with fans tweeting that Taylor saved 2020.

Folklore was one of the best selling albums in 2020 and spent eight weeks at number one making it the longest- running chart topper since 2017. But not only is Swift known for breaking her own records she is also known for putting her friends first.

Her lead single “Cardigan” became Taylor’s sixth US number one single and to make this song extra special she sent out customized cardigans to her celebrity friends including; Martha Hunt, Kelsea Ballerini, Jennifer Hudson, and more.

Another single that caught fans attention was “Invisible String”. What makes a classic Taylor Swift song are the metaphors she writes in her lyrics leaving us with hints on who she is referencing in the song. “Invisible String” is about the journey she took to find the right guy and referencing two important Joes from her life.

In the first verse, “Teal was the color of your shirt/ When you were sixteen at the yogurt shop/ You used to work at to make a little money.” This relates to her current boyfriend Joe Alwyn’s first job working at a frozen yogurt shop called Snog in London.

The third verse she sings, “Cold was steel of my axe to grind for the boys who broke my heart/ Now I send their babies presents.” This is the sweetest reference as many fans believed that Taylor is talking about her ex Joe Jonas, who had his first child with wife Sophie Turner this summer.

Just like her song “Mirrorball” Taylor definitely showed us many versions of herself after Folklore was released. On November 25th Taylor’s studio session of Folklore became available to stream on Disney + where we get an insight on how her 8th album was made and an intimate concert as she performs every song off of the album.

But Taylor didn’t stop there. Before ending 2020 she surprised us with her 9th studio album Evermore which she considers to be the sister album to Folklore. Swift stated in an IG caption that she couldn’t stop writing and us fans aren’t complaining.

“To put it plainly, we just couldn’t stop writing songs. To try and put it more poetically, it feels like we were standing on the edge of the folkorian woods and had a choice: to turn and go back or to travel further into the forest of this music. We chose to wander deeper.”

According to Rolling Stones Evermore was number one the week of December 18th beating both Michael Buble’s and Mariah Carey’s Christmas albums.

One of Taylor’s top singles off of her new album was “Willow” which Swift compared the song to casting a love spell. The music video is a continuation from the “Cardigan” video as a golden string guides Swift to her lover.

Other singles that made the charts were “Champagne Problems”, “Tis the Damn Season”, and “Gold Rush”. Republic Records reported that more than a million copies of Evermore sold in its first week globally.

Now Taylor is ending 2020 by posting adorable pictures of her cat (as if we would expect anything else).

“Boxing Day.”

We all are hoping that 2021 is nothing like 2020 but if we happen to still be in a pandemic we are positive that Taylor will be thinking of us and release her 10th studio album.
