ABTV Strangest Celebrity Quarantine Postings

Quarantine is a weird time, we can all agree. After all, human beings thrive on social interaction and connection. Fortunately for us (and perhaps unfortunately for history), these celebs have kept us entertained through their active and sometimes strange social media accounts. Take a look at some of the quirkiest things: Madonna, Britney Spears, Dax Shepard and Joaquin Phoenix have done since going indoors.

The MVP: Madonna

No one is more confused by the pop priestess’s IG than Madonna herself. You might recall a post from early quarantine days (March 20) where she’s seen playfully dancing around her bathroom singing “Vogue” into a hairbrush with some choice rewritten lyrics, including “Come one, go, let’s go eat some fried fish, fried fish!”

Harmless enough, right? Granted, a little strange but, as she says in the post, “it’s 3am – cut me some slack.” So we did. And then, days later, on March 23, in a post that has since been removed but lives in infamy online forever, Madonna addresses us – naked – from her rose petal-filled bathtub lamenting about how COVID-19 has leveled the playing field.

“That’s the thing about COVID-19. It doesn’t care about how rich you are, how famous you are, how funny you are, how smart you are…it’s the great equalizer.” Maybe it’s the ominous piano playing in the background that takes this from feeling like a heartfelt conversation between Madonna and her 15.1 million followers to more of an unraveling ‘should I be watching this?’ moment. But hey, leave it to the Queen of Unconventional to push the boundaries ALL the way to get her message across. Even during quarantine.

Oops I Did It Again: Britney Spears

Ok, so, I’ve been following Britney’s IG account for a while now because, I mean, she’s  BRITNEY, and it’s one of the most entertaining accounts to follow out there. Most of the time, it’s exactly what you’d think: Britney addressing the camera with a message of inspiration, throwback-Britney pics, a picture of a flower or horse or bowl of chocolate pudding that she happens to find beautiful.

But on April 31, Britney, shifting back and forth while addressing the camera in a crop top and rolled-up booty shorts, comes to us candidly from her home gym which she admits to burning down. “I haven’t been in here for, like, 6 months because I burned my gym down, unfortunately. I had two candles and, yeah, one thing led to another, and I burned it down.”

Thankfully, no one was hurt in the incident, and Britney was left with only 2 pieces of work out equipment, which she dutifully then uses as she demos us through a quick at-home work out. Honestly, I can’t even be mad at that level of vulnerability.

File This Under Things I Can’t Unsee: Dax Shepard

If you’re squeamish in any way, you’re going to want to skip this one. On April 24, as kids Delta and Lincoln looked on while wife Kristen Bell filmed, the 45-year old ‘Parenthood’ star, on the phone with his physician, successfully removed a surgical pin from his casted hand.

“Can I see the pin? Is it covered in blood?” one of the kids remarks off-camera. And while no blood is seen during the extraction, the image of pulling what appears to be over 4 inches of metal out of a human hand is enough for me to be ready to RUN out of quarantine. “I’m going to add pin removal to my resume now,” Shepard jokes, and I’m going to check the license of every medical professional I come across from now on.

Honorable Mention: Joaquin Phoenix

Let’s face it: both Joaquin Phoenix has always skipped to the beat of a different drum, which is part of his allure, charm and cinematic greatness. But a couple of recent IG posts have me scratching my head. Sense of humor? Totally. Bored out of their minds? Probably. Full of irony? Definitely.

Phoenix, 45, shows us his efforts to protect the masses through mask-wearing…a brown paper bag with eyes and mouth cut-outs while smoking a cigarette. While some commenters found the image a bit off, most of the comments the post garnered were lighthearted and found the humor in the image, with one comment from @marta_onova reading, “Maybe a bit risky material for smokers, but then again, not the time to be picky these days,”. Definitely not the weirdest thing I’ve seen in quarantine, but worth the mention.

Anyone I missed? Agree or disagree? What’s the weirdest thing you’ve seen while staying home? Let me know on Twitter & IG @LauraThomasSonn.
