If you haven’t seen TNT’s Snowpiercer yet, you’re missing out on an incredibly riveting show filled with class wars, intense characters and romances, and all the post-apocalyptic dystopian drama you could ask for. You’re also missing out on an amazing portrayal of two very important LGBTQ characters, one of which is played by the insanely talented actress that is Mickey Sumner.

Mickey stopped by AfterBuzz TV’s Snowpiercer After Show to talk all about her important character, her working relationship with on-screen love interest Susan Park, and so much more.

Throughout the show, Mickey discussed the intensity of Episode 8, and how critical this episode was for her character arc. In this episode, Sumner’s character Bess Till undergoes a major transformation in regard to her stance on the class wars and which side she is on during this dystopian revolution.

Mickey shared insight into her preparation and even shared that she had no idea this was the direction her character was heading seeing as though the cast only receives scripts about a week ahead of filming!

As we dived more into her character, Sumner discussed exactly what it means for her to portray such an important LGBTQ character. She shared that she loves how Bess’ queerness was completely normalized and even mentioned fans praising how Bess never had to have a stereotypical “coming out” storyline.

“It’s a real honor. I have been so blown away and moved by the response from people who are seeing Till, a queer character on TV, and someone who has this like complex plot line that isn’t just about her sexuality.”

Sumner even jokingly elaborated on the incredible working relationship and friendship that she has with co-star Susan Park.

“She’s my sister at this point. I mean sisters who make out, but there’s a lot of trust and a lot of love and respect.”

While working with Susan was one of her many favorite parts of this project, Sumner also shared insight into another favorite part of her experience on set.

“My favorite part was that I got to do so much. I got to have these really intense intimate love scenes. I got to have action-packed, punching and bleeding scenes. I got to have like the buddy-cop moment with Layton. It was just such a rich season for me and for my character.”

Our favorite part of Snowpiercer was seeing the incredible work by Mickey and the rest of this talented cast. We’re so thrilled for next week’s season finale and can’t wait for the already confirmed season two!

If you can’t get enough of Mickey and her incredible work, catch her on other shows and films like American Made and Marriage Story. You can also follow her on social media @sumnermickey to see adorable fanfic posts and see more of this hard-working, badass mom and actor.

You can also catch up on Snowpiercer ahead of next week’s season finale on TNT and catch our After Show with hosts Trina Dong, Bryant Santos, and Rachel Goodman.
