Celebrities are known for entertaining us, creating trends and always looking fly. Some even seem to have an ‘invisible fan’ that follows them, because their hair is always blowing perfectly in the wind. But in this unprecedented time, some celebs are stepping away from the glitz and glamour, and getting down to the grit by standing up and speaking out.

Beyonce wrote an open letter to the Kentucky attorney general demanding him to arrest the officers who killed Breonna Taylor. Breonna Taylor was sleeping in her own home, when police burst in unannounced and starting firing shots. Turns out, they were at the wrong house and the person they were looking for had already been caught. To make this sting even more, Louisville city council voted to ban local law enforcement from using “no knock” warrants, which lets officers enter homes without announcing themselves. However, the officers who killed Breonna Taylor still walk free. Beyonce’s open letter was eloquent and classy, but had the undertone of urgency and seriousness.

Kyrie Irving has decided to swap dribbling the ball for a boycott. Irving was one of over 80 NBA players present on a call where he voiced that players should not resume the season with the racial injustices currently taking place. His concern was the league would distract from the Black Lives Matter Movement. The NBA is made up of over seventy percent black players, so it wasn’t too outlandish when he also proposed that players could start their own league. Kyrie Irving is being brave and bold by taking a stance and standing firm on it.

Former boxing champion Floyd Mayweather, took a stance in the form of generosity. Mayweather offered to pay for George Floyd’s funeral and the family accepted. George Floyd is the black man who was murdered after a white police officer pressed his knee into his neck for over eight minutes. His death is what sparked protest, riots and looting all over the country and triggered the entire Black Lives Movement. Floyd Mayweather’s net worth is at least $560 million dollars.

It is so inspiring to see celebrities use their platforms for a greater cause. The more we come together, the more we can get done. The more we get done, the quicker we will see change. Love and respect to all the celebrities who are speaking out. Your voice is heard and appreciated, and we know it is prompting more to do so as well.
