She’s not just a pretty face; Shania Twain is now adding television producer to her long list of credentials.

The country singer announced she’ll be partnering with Reel World Management (Netflix’s Virgin River) to develop a television drama based on New York Times’ best-selling author Debbie Macomber’s “Heart of Texas” novels in a tweet Sunday. Twain will also lend her songwriting abilities to the project composing original music for the series.

“As soon as I was pitched this idea, I fell in love with it,” she said in a video posted across social media. “I’m so excited about it and I can’t wait to share it with you.”

The series follows the story of three Texan siblings struggling to keep their family ranch afloat after their parents’ death. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Twain said she hadn’t previously read the books but found the series “captivating.”

“There are some parallels in the story to my own story — a young family carrying on after the parents die, and the female main character having all this responsibility,” Twain said. “I was thinking this sounds so much like my own life. And I’m drawn to horses and the whole lifestyle of living outside the city, where family is everything. It really spoke to me.”

Twain’s own parents were killed in a car accident when she was 22, leaving her to raise her three younger siblings as she tried to build her music career. Her self-titled debut album was released six years later in 1993; she’s since released four more original albums.

Twain is planning to pen new music for Heart of Texas. She recently spent time in the series’ presumed filming location of Alberta to get in the right headspace to compose for the show.

“I’ll be able to write about love and loss and hardship and triumph. It’s going to run the gamut in that sense,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “I’m still getting a feel for the sound and mood of the music. I’ll be getting together with an arranger, and that’s going to be new for me as well, getting involved with the actual scoring.”

This isn’t Twain’s first venture into scripted productions. She recently made an appearance as Teri Camp in the film I Still Believe, where she portrayed the main character’s (KJ Apa) mother.

Reel World Management plans to take the potential series to buyers soon, and producer Roma Roth told The Hollywood Reporter they hope to reach a widespread audience like that of Netflix’s Sweet Magnolias or Virgin River.

“When you’re dealing with themes of family and love and community, as well as the obstacles they have to overcome, that resonates with a global audience, not just a North American audience,” Roth said.
