Actress and UNICEF ambassador, Salma Hayek has taken to Instagram in support of the search for Vanessa Guillen. The 20-year-old soldier was last seen alive April 22, 2020, at the Fort Hood Army Post in Killeen, Texas.

Many have scrutinized the media for not covering latino injustices in the fight for reform of law enforcement or brutality.  According to CALMATTERS, Latinos in California make up 39% of the state’s population, but 46% of the victims from police shootings from 2016-2018. Statistics are still pending from 2018-2020.  Hayek is one of many celebrities that have stepped in to bring attention to the matter for injustices against latinos.  Last week the star posted, although few, videos of protests and media coverage for Andres Guardado, and has since posted videos and messages to support the search for PFC Vanessa Guillen.

Hayek has posted to her Instagram story frequently supporting the search for the soldier. On June 12, Hayek posted a photo of herself on her timeline holding a cardboard sign saying Bring back Vanessa, in english and spanish. Latinx community members have banned together to support the cause on the heels of protests for change against social injustices towards people of color. Outrage erupted when news broke that the active soldier was on base at Fort Hood when she went missing, prompting community members to protest for answers and coverage.

News broke this week in regards to Soldier Vanessa Guillen when a suspect by the name of Aaron Robinson was named. Robinson took his own life when confronted by authorities on Wednesday after human remains were found the night pior. The remains were found near the Leon River in Bell County, Texas. Authorities have yet to identify the remains, but the family suspect that they are of Guillen.

The Like A Boss star has also posted about Andres Guardado, who was working when killed by two Los Angeles Sheriffs, while on the job. The star called his deal an ‘execution’ and questioned the efforts made by authorities to uncover the truth from the night he was killed. The fight for justice for both Guillen and Guardado are still underway, and Hayek has shown her support relentlessly to bring justice to those involved by spreading awareness and new information.
