ABTV Quarantine With The Stars  Ronen Rubinstein

9-1-1, I have an emergency. I just talked to Ronen Rubinstein, and I’m about to faint.

From a young age, Ronen Rubinstein always knew he wanted to be an actor and his love of performing has allowed him to become one of Hollywood’s hottest up-and-coming actors.

With incredible roles on Netflix’s Orange Is The New Black, Freeform’s Dead of Summer, and his most recent starring role in the hot (literally hot because it’s about firefighters) new FOX series 9-1-1 Lone Star, Ronen has proved that hard work and going after your goals will help you achieve all that you want to do.

9-1-1 Lone Star was recently picked up for a second season by FOX and Ronen was so excited to share all his love for the show, his co-stars, Ryan Murphy, and of course, his adoring fans.

“I had to pinch myself throughout the entire season because of everyone involved like Ryan Murphy, Rob Lowe, and Liv Tyler. Just to be able to be on a show that accesses such a massive audience and honestly a little bit of everyone, all walks of life and all demographics. And then we got season two, and again, it’s just a continuous dream come true.”

In the midst of the COVID19 crisis, most productions are at a halt, but Ronen shared some good news for #Tarlos fans and all fans of the show, when he shared that he’s confident that season two will be in production sometime this year.

While on the topic of Tarlos and season two, Ronen discussed how he wants to explore even more of Tarlos and the very honest relationship his character TK has with love interest Carlos on-screen. “I want to go on dates. I want to cook him dinner cos he cooked me dinner”, he shared with a laugh.

Ronen also shared that he is so grateful for fans who have latched onto this on-screen relationship and he is also grateful to bring visibility to the LGBT community.

“I love that it’s not a tragic coming-out story. It’s just like this is who TK is, this is who Carlos is and it’s completely normal. We’re not gonna make a big deal out of it. And to be able to represent that in that way is really beautiful.”

Another beautiful thing about this show is the beautiful (men), I mean, beautiful relationship between TK and Carlos. Ronen discussed how there was a lot of giving and receiving on set between him and co-star Rafael Silva, and, um, it’s not what you’re thinking.

“In the actor world, there’s a lot of like giving and receiving. We’ll play around with certain scenes and play around with certain lines and I always know if I give him something new in the middle of a scene, he’ll return it. He’s extremely gracious as an actor.”

Ronen is obviously so passionate about his role on this incredible show and I wanted to learn more about some of the other things in life he’s passionate about. Kobe Bryant played a huge role in Ronen’s attitude towards his life and career, and Ronen explained just how much Kobe meant to him.

“I moved to America from Israel when I was five years old and Kobe Bryant and the Lakers was the first American thing I knew…he was a pure role model. He taught me what it was to have the ultimate dedication to what you love. He taught me from an older age what it is to be completely disciplined to a craft and in many ways, he’s really helped guide my attitude towards my career.”

Another important subject that Ronen is extremely passionate about is climate change, and he discussed how actors who are also activists like Leo DiCaprio, inspired him to use his platform to spread awareness about this cause.

Ronen has also publicly endorsed Bernie Sanders in the 2020 Presidential Election, especially due to Bernie’s stance on climate change. He shared that while Bernie is technically out of the race, he’s hopeful that Joe Biden will work with Bernie on important causes like climate change.

As we began to wrap up, I just had one more question for Ronen. I HAD to know how his new journey in veganism was going and he was excited to share that it’s been great!

“I’m so proud to say that I finally did it! It wasn’t as hard as I thought it was gonna be especially because before I was vegan, I was a pescatarian, but vegan life is really good.”

In addition to being happy with his new vegan journey, Ronen is also grateful for his health and he is extremely self-aware of how fortunate he is during these trying times. He has been reaching out to fans, and also those that are struggling across the globe, to offer his support and give back as much as he possibly can.

If you want to reach out to Ronen, be sure to catch him on Instagram and Twitter @RonenRubinstein, and there’s pictures of Ronen in a firefighter uniform, so I don’t really need to say more. Also, be sure to catch an encore presentation of 9-1-1 Lone Star Mondays on FOX or catch up anytime on FOX NOW and Hulu.
