In a recent interview with Ellen, Ricky Martin said the first two weeks of quarantine were “overwhelming.” The Latino Pop Superstar spoke with the daytime host about how he’s handled the process of lockdown.

“It was sad,” He shared when talking about receiving the lockdown news, “and then I was obviously poker face because my kids, they need to see me strong. They need to see me happy.” Martin has been in quarantine in Puerto Rico with his four children, mother and husband Jwan Yosef. When referencing how the pandemic at home has been he stated, “It has been intense.”

The father of Matteo and Valentino, 11, Lucia,1 and Renn, 7 months has had to figure out how to regroup and figure out how to balance work and fatherhood. He said he found a way to have bonding moments with loved ones and “me time.” Martin said he starts his day around 6 a.m., which is an hour before the rest of the house, saying, “It has been extremely important for me.” He went on to say, “That time of silence in the house is amazing for sitting on the couch with my coffee, for meditation, for going over my emails.”

Martin did admit that fitness has been a struggle for the last three months. “I haven’t been to the gym! Your self-Esteem gets so affected,” he said in reference to online fitness goers, “The last thing I want to do is pick up a dumbbell.” He said that Jwan Yosef works out in a room in the house but that he’s not ready to join in on fitness yet. He goes on to say that he’s been eating healthy and staying active.

One activity Martin has been adamin about accomplishing is house chores, saying his mother said, “sit down and talk to me! You can’t sit still!” The singer’s house chores including, cleaning his office, the toilets and the windows.

Amid the CoronaVirus lockdown, the singer released a new EP, Pausa, which means pause in spanish.

In an interview with Billboard he said, “[Through this music] I share my fears, my insecurities, and my moments of panic that I’ve felt through this quarantine.” The Latin artist is hoping to release the second part of the album, Play, in September when restrictions on quarantine are expected to be lifted.

“I had to take pictures for the album and I wasn’t going to break quarantine.” He said. He relied on his husband to shoot the photos for him. As some may recall, fellow pop superstar Bad Bunny did the same with his girlfriend.

When talking about his children, the 48-year old singer said he’s teaching his kids how to process their feelings. He said he asked them every day, “How do you feel? ‘If they say ‘good’, I say, ‘that’s not a feeling, lets try again.’” He wants to make them aware of the importance of recognizing real emotion. He also finds it important to maintain transparency with them about the ongoing protests. “Give them love, and answer with honesty-that’s what we’ve been doing since Day 1. It’s time to talk about injustice and how, because of the color of your skin, you’re treated differently.”
