If you’re looking for a multi-talented actor, singer, dancer, and self-proclaimed “life of the party” to get you hyped and make you laugh, look no further than up-and-coming superstar Brandon Gilpin.

Gilpin is set to take the stage (of a strip club) as 15-year-old DJ Neva Scared on the upcoming Starz series P-Valley. Even though this is Gilpin’s first series regular role, he has always loved performing and has worked on many other exciting projects both in front of and behind the camera.

From a young age, Brandon (fondly known as ShowTimeBrando by his social media followers) has always loved acting. Since he went to a performing arts high school, he was always involved in plays and musicals, but he really began to hone in on his craft at the age of 15.

When he got to college, BET was shooting the hit show The Quad on campus. Brandon’s can-do ambitious attitude prompted him to walk on set, say “Hi, I’m Brandon, I want to be an actor” and ask to be a part of the project. The show’s team agreed and brought him on as a Production Assistant/Intern and that is when his love of acting and television really came to life.

After this exciting BTS role, Gilpin began taking on other projects like Greyson Family Christmas, which he says was quite a whirlwind considering it was shot in two weeks and released just a month later. He is also looking ahead to dream roles both on stage and screen such as Hamilton on Broadway and as the Friendly Neighborhood Spiderman Miles Morales.

As we got to talking about his exciting role on P-Valley, Brandon shared how much he loved working on the show and what he wants fans to take away from it. He discussed that what he loves most about this show is that it humanizes exotic dancers and shows that “these are real people with real complexities just like you and me.”

The P-Valley star also teased what we can expect from his character DJ Neva Scared and also mentioned how he and his character are very much alike.

“I’m a 15 year old DJ in a strip club. He’s the best DJ in the whole Mississippi Delta. One thing about DJ Neva Scared, he knows how to turn the party up and that’s definitely me.”

If landing this dream role wasn’t enough excitement and happiness for Brandon, he also shared how he was overjoyed when he got to meet one of his acting idols Will Smith earlier this year. Gilpin shared that Will was extremely personable and down-to-earth and that he was truly taken aback during the encounter.

“Will Smith is one of the biggest stars on the planet. Even though I was so nervous and scared, he was very personable. It was a real encounter and it was a real feeling. I was starstruck.”

We’re confident that fans are going to start being just as starstruck as Brandon was to meet his idol after they see his incredible performance on P-Valley, premiering July 12th on Starz. While you wait for the exciting premiere, you can also check out Brandon’s work on Greyson Family Christmas and follow him on social media @showtimebrando.
