ABTV Loves Bryant Family Weekly
After the tragic event that took Kobe and Gianna Bryant away from us, there have been numerous efforts to keep their names and legacies alive. Artists, designers, and sport fanatics have used their talents to provide creative pieces and memorials. Their work continues this week as some important announcements have been made to honor the family.
Following the loss of the two basketball players, many across the world have celebrated and honored them every single day. Now, there is an official day to remember the contributions Kobe Bryant has made both on and off the court. Earlier this week, Orange County’s Board of Supervisors announced that August 24th is now Kobe Bryant Day. After a unanimous vote, Board Chairwoman Michelle Steel explained that the date was determined by the famous numbers the basketball star wore while playing for the LA Lakers, 8 and 24. “I’m proposing August 24 to be dedicated to the memory of Kobe Bryant, and all that he brought to the Orange County community, which to (sic) strive to live by his words of encouraging those around us to never give up on their dreams,” Steel said according to CNN. “The most important thing is to try and inspire people so that they can be great in whatever they want to do.”
The board also highlighted Kobe’s own words when discussing the importance of dedication. As someone who faced many challenges himself, Bryant once pointed out that “the most important thing is to try and inspire people so that they can be great in whatever they want to do.’” The board hopes that their decision not only honors his flesh, but also his words. There aren’t any special events planned for the day yet, but Afterbuzz TV will keep an eye out for any updates.
In addition to this amazing announcement, shoe lovers are also in for a treat. Undefeated announced their collaboration with Nike to bring fans the Kobe 5 Protro “Hall of Fame” design. The first look at the color way was released recently and people can’t wait to get their hands on them. The gold mesh is paired with purple soles and sock liners. The classic Nike check marks feature the numbers 24, 10, and 8 to reflect the numbers he wore in the NBA and the USA team. Kobe’s signature mamba symbol is also included on the back of the shoe along with the Undefeated logo. There isn’t an official release date for the shoes, but the design already has fans ready to buy.
While we have seen a lot of official tributes and announcements, fans are speculating there is another homage to the late Kobe Bryant. On July 31st, Beyoncé released Black Is King on Disney +. The film highlighted African and African American culture to the sweet sounds of The Gift and ended with a very beautiful visual. As she sang Spirit, Beyoncé wore a gold ensemble while the choir surrounding her wore purple suits. Although there hasn’t been any confirmation about it being a dedication, the angelic lighting seemed as if Kobe and Gianna were looking down on the choir. Vanessa showed her love and support by posting it on her story with purple and gold hearts. Even if it wasn’t a direct tribute, we hope it brought the family a little light.
